The Elmhurst Police Department recently reported the following arrests and citations. Persons charged with domestic battery are not named in order to protect the privacy of victims. Readers are reminded that an arrest does not constitute a conviction, and that subjects are considered innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law. Juveniles age 17-or-younger are not named.
Criminal trespass, criminal damage to property
Nov. 1
A car dealership in the 500 block of W. Lake told police at around 2:49 p.m. that the suspect became upset when the dealership refused to supply him with a loaner vehicle due to lack of identification. When the suspect left the dealership he allegedly damaged the exit door and caused damage to a portable jump start unit. The dealership did not want to sign complaints but wished to report the incident.

Nov. 2
A 38-year-old Elmhurst woman was charged with domestic battery in the 200 block of E. May at around 10 p.m. A victim told police he was in a verbal argument with his stepson when the suspect allegedly grabbed his shirt from behind, pulling it, and rendered him unable to breathe.

Ashley Guzman, 30, of Willowbrook, was charged with DUI, unlawful possession of a controlled substance, no valid driver’s license, speeding, improper lane usage and no insurance subsequent to a traffic stop near Roosevelt and York at around 12:33 a.m.

Laurynas Gieba, 36, of Willowbrook, was charged with DUI, failure to yield to an emergency vehicle and improper lane usage subsequent to a traffic stop near Riverside and Route 83 at around 1:26 a.m.

Javier Mora-Martinez, 20, of Berwyn, was charged with DUI, improper lane usage, disobeying a traffic control device, driving while license suspended and consumption of alcohol by a minor, while a juvenile suspect was issued citations for violation of curfew, possession of cannabis and consumption of alcohol by a minor subsequent to a traffic stop near York and Third at around 4:48 a.m.
James Moore, 33, of Calumet City, was charged with DUI and improper lane usage subsequent to at traffic stop near Route 83 at Lake at around 4:09 a.m.

Aaron J. Gur-Proctor, 35, of Denver, Colo., was issued citations for DUI, possession of cannabis, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of an open container of alcohol, operating a vehicle with a video device, speeding and no insurance subsequent to a traffic stop in the 100 block of W. North at around 4:28 p.m.
Chad S. Shepherd, 48, of Elmhurst, was charged with DUI, expired registration, no rear registration plate light and no insurance subsequent to a traffic stop near Hagans and Winthrop at around 2:15 p.m.

Police said that subsequent to a traffic stop near Third and Clinton at around 12:26 a.m., two juvenile suspects and Jon Myers, 18, of Elmhurst, were issued citations for consumption of alcohol by a minor.

Katarzuna Banas, 36, of Deerfield, was charged with was charged with DUI, speeding, improper lane usage and endangering the life of a child (passenger) subsequent to a traffic stop near Route 83 and Lake at around 1 a.m.
Refugio Rueda-Munoz, 41, of Hazel Crest, was charged with DUI, improper lane usage, illegal transportation of alcohol and possession of a controlled substance subsequent to a traffic stop near Route 83 and North at around 12:14 a.m. Police said the suspect was found to be in possession of a $10 bill containing cocaine.
Harassment, threats
Oct. 30
A victim in the 900 block of S. York told police at around 9:16 a.m. that approximately a month ago, a suspect came into their bank branch and attempted to deposit a check that was not made out to her. The suspect was advised she could not deposit it or withdraw money from this check. The manager observed the suspect attempt to cash the check via ATM after this encounter. On the above date, the suspect came back to the branch at the above location and reportedly threatened the manager. The suspect was served a trespass notice for that branch, stated she understood the circumstances, and would go to another bank.
A victim in the 600 block of W. Grand told police at around 2:38 p.m. that the suspect had recently been fired from a coffee shop and began making threats that he was going to shoot up the place, but then said he wouldn’t do that and was just kidding. Contact was made with the suspect who denied making any threats. The complainant did not wish to sign complaints and a no-trespass notice was issued to the suspect.

Nov. 5
Lauren Miller, 24, of Bellwood, was issued citations for possession of drug paraphernalia, disobeying a police officer, disobeying a traffic control device and illegally tinted windows near Route 83 and North at around 4:25 p.m. Police said a reporting officer attempted to stop Miller for driving on the shoulder and Miller continued driving west on North Avenue for six blocks before stopping her vehicle.

Police said that subsequent to a traffic stop near Riverside and Monroe at around 12:05 a.m., Donnell Harrison, 31, of Chicago, was found to be driving while license revoked and also was in possession of ecstasy. Anthony Holmes, 33, of Chicago, a passenger in the vehicle, was cited for illegal transportation of alcohol. According to police, Jamon Harrison, 35, of Chicago, also admitted to possession of ecstasy. Jamon Harrison was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance, obstructing identification and illegal transportation of alcohol. Donnell Harrison was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance, aggravated driving while license revoked, aggravated driving while license suspended, no insurance, improper lane usage, improper turn, failure to signal and unlawful display of a registration sticker.

Antonia Serio, 22, of Barrington, was charged with possession of a controlled substance, obstructing identification and possession of drug paraphernalia in the 500 block of W. Grand at around 8:43 p.m. Police said Serio gave a false name and was found to be wanted out of Winnebago County on a warrant. The suspect also was found to be in possession of heroin and drug paraphernalia, according to police.

Jose Escobar, 27, of Bellwood, was issued citations for possession of cannabis, possession of drug paraphernalia and tinted windows subsequent to a traffic stop near North and Villa at around 2:22 a.m.
Luis Lopez, 25, of Elk Grove Village, was issued for possession of cannabis subsequent to a suspicious vehicle in the 600 block of N. York at around 10:40 p.m.

A victim in the 100 block of N. Clinton told police at around 1:42 a.m. that they observed an unknown person wearing a tan plaid shirt standing outside their kitchen window. The area was checked with no results.

Nov. 6
Residential burglary was reported in the 400 block of Walnut at around 11:06 a.m. A victim told police she heard a noise in another bedroom, went to that room, and observed the suspect inside of her home. The suspect stated she was just looking around and helps people with yard work. The suspect and victim exited the home and the suspect left the scene on foot. After checking the residence, the victim found two rings were missing from a bedroom. The suspect was described at a black female between 25 and 30 years old, around 5’8” and 160 pounds, with possible purple coloring in her hair, long green fingernails, wearing a black jacket, short jean shorts with black stockings under the shorts and carrying a straw.
Attempted burglary was reported in the 100 block of W. Grantley at around 12:09 p.m. A victim told police that his youngest daughter was home alone and an unknown suspect entered their home through an unlocked front door. The house was checked and dresser drawers were found open, but nothing appeared to be missing. The suspect was observed leaving the property through their back yard. The suspect entered a beater condition silver Town and Country minivan and drove northbound on Larch from the scene. The suspect was described as a black female between 25 and 30 years old, around 5’8” and 160 pounds with long black hair with possible purple coloring, wearing short shorts, a black zip-up shirt, flip-flops and carrying a large brown leather bag.
A victim in the 800 block of Linden told police at around 3:24 p.m. that she applied online for healthcare insurance through healthcare.gov and received a confirmation email. She subsequently received two phishing emails and called the number left in the email. The victim spoke with someone named “Dave” who asked for her Social Security number and a debit card number for payment. The victim provided the suspect with her Social Security number, but not the debit card number. The call was disconnected a short time later.

Residential burglary was reported in the 700 block of N. Van Auken at around 4:19 p.m. A victim told police that while doing yard work in the back yard, an unknown suspect(s) entered his unlocked home and removed three boxes of migraine medication, cash and a jewelry box.
Forgery was reported at a business in the 500 block of S. York at around 9:26 p.m. A complainant told police that an unknown suspect ordered a double shot of Crown Royal® and paid using a counterfeit $100 bill. The suspect was described as a black male, around 5-10 and 200 pounds, approximately 50 years old, wearing a dark-colored vest, a red flannel long-sleeved shirt, dark-colored pants and had some facial hair.
Theft was reported in the 100 block of N. York at 9:39 p.m. A complainant told police that a suspect entered the back room of a restaurant and took the complainant’s backpack, which contained his car keys. The suspect then entered the complainant’s vehicle and took his iPad. The reporting officer contacted the suspect, who subsequently returned to the scene and relinquished the complainant’s property. The suspect was served with a no trespass notice. The complainant did not wish to pursue charges.
Nov. 2
Retail theft was reported at a store in the 300 block of S. Route 83 at around 7:13 p.m. Video surveillance shows two suspects described as black females wearing dark winter clothes, in their mid-30s with shoulder length hair leave the store with several black bags of merchandise.
The suspects then entered a blue Nissan Altima and left the scene.
Nov. 1-Nov. 2
Three instances of a person entering an unlocked vehicle were reported between the above dates—two incidents occurring in the 800 block of S. Fairfield and the other occurring in the 900 block of S. Hawthorne. In each instance, an unknown suspect(s) entered an unlocked vehicle but did not take anything.
Burglary to a vehicle was reported in the 300 block of W. Jackson. A victim told police that she parked her vehicle in her driveway at approximately 10 p.m. Nov. 1, but left it unlocked. When she went back to her vehicle Nov. 2, she realized that unknown suspect(s) had entered her vehicle and stole $10, a cell phone charger and a pair of headphones.

Theft was reported in the 200 block of N. York at around 10:59 a.m. A victim told police that while at work at a cafe, a suspect stole cash out of her wallet that was placed in her black jacket on the coat rack located in the general seating area of the restaurant. An investigation is pending.
Oct. 30
Burglary was reported at a gas station in the 300 block of W. Butterfield at around 5:09 p.m. A victim told police that an unknown suspect broke the glass on the front door and gained entry. An investigation is pending.
Warrant arrest
Nov. 6
Police said officers responded to a hotel in the 500 block of W. Grand at around 10:35 p.m. for the report of a suspicious incident where the allegedly intoxicated suspect knocked on a door and entered the complainant’s room. The suspect, Benjamin F. Riechert, 35, of Elmhurst, was unaware that he entered the wrong room, according to police. The complainant did not wish to pursue charges. However, police said Riechert was found to have a valid warrant out of the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office. Riechert was arrested and transported to the police station where he was processed on the warrant.
