There was a Speak Out caller (Aug. 22 issue) that made a couple of good points about property taxes and what percentage of our property tax bill goes to school districts. School districts receive 75 percent of all property taxes collected, and the rest of the village services such as police, fire, the park district, etc., get what’s left. A lot of these school districts have assistant administrators and specialists for this, that and the other thing. How many of these assistant administrators and specialists do these schools really need? I’m sure that some of these positions could be consolidated, if not eliminated.
I agree with the caller who said politicians are paying lip service to us taxpayers. Tell us exactly how you are going to lower our taxes, then go to work on it. More action and less talk. Although with the new minimum of $40,000 for new teachers, I don’t see how our property taxes will ever go down.
It’s too bad Donald Trump can’t exercise some self-restraint. Just because Denmark doesn’t want to discuss selling Greenland, Donald Trump throws a fit and cancels a visit with their prime minister. I really thought that once Trump took over as president, he would cut back on the pettiness and the name-calling. Instead, I’d have to say it’s gotten worse. When the economy is doing well, a president should be a shoo-in to get reelected, but because of the silly, stupid and petty things he often says and does, he could very well lose.
