St. Patricks Day Parade
The 23rd annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade will step off at 12 noon from Wilson St. & Spring Rd. heading north, ending at the railroad tracks just beyond Silverado Grill. A fun-filled day for the whole family. Info: elmhurststpatsparade.com.

Thursday, March 7
- From 7 – 8:30 p.m., Elmhurst College welcomes Pulitzer Prize-winning author and presidential historian Doris Kearns Goodwin who will present “Team of Rivals: Leadership Lessons from Abraham Lincoln” as this year’s Rudolf G. Schade Lecture. The program will take place at Hammerschmidt Chapel. Tickets are available at elmhurst.life/TeamOfRivals.
- From 7-8 p.m., the Elmhurst Library joins the Elmhurst History Museum to present Elizabeth Barrett Browning: The Story of the Sonnets. Three years after their elopement and marriage, Elizabeth and Robert Browning welcomed the birth of their son Pen and mourned the death of Robert’s mother. Struggling to raise her beloved husband’s spirits and to prove that love doesn’t die, Elizabeth (portrayed by professional actress Debra Miller) considers revealing to Robert the romantic sonnets she wrote inspired by letters from their 18-month courtship. - Beginning at 12:15 p.m., the Single Mother Support Group will meet in the Garden Room of Elmhurst Christian Reformed Church, 149 W. Brush Hill Rd. The speaker will be Rachel Shannon, who holds a PhD in family therapy, is an Associate Professor at Judson University, and has her own private practice. Her topic is “Taking Steps Toward Healing From Abuse.” Before the talk, enjoy lunch with your children, then free child care starts at 1 p.m. for infants through age 12 during the program. Free and open to the public.
- At 1:30 p.m., the public is invited to learn about the history and design of the McCormick House at a docent-led tour, “From the Bauhaus to Our House.” Learn the concepts in the historical exhibition The Whole World a Bauhaus and end in the two contemporary site-specific exhibitions in the McCormick House.

- From 8:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the DoubleTree by Hilton, 1909 Spring Rd. in Oak Brook, Edward-Elmhurst Health will host a Healthy Driven Wellness Forum, “Unstoppable You.” Samantha Harris, former co-host of ABC’s Dancing with the Stars and Entertainment Tonight and a cancer survivor, will be the keynote speaker. - At 1:30 p.m., teens are invited to Elmhurst Art Museum to be introduced to a variety of methods to fabricate their creative designs in advance of the Bauhaus Teen Design Competition, which will take place on April 13. Just as Bauhaus students were encouraged to use the materials and technologies of their day, design professionals will teach skills and provide advice on how to construct their projects. At 1:30 p.m., the public is invited to learn about the history and design of the McCormick House at a docent-led tour, “From the Bauhaus to Our House.” Learn the concepts in the historical exhibition The Whole World a Bauhaus and end in the two contemporary site-specific exhibitions in the McCormick House.

From 3-6 p.m. in the Commons of York High School, 355 St. Charles Rd., the Elmhurst Commission on Youth will be holding a Teen Job/Volunteer Fair. Partners will work to connect qualified individuals with Elmhurst area establishment seeking employees and volunteers. Partners include: Elmhurst Park District, Elmhurst Public Library, Elmhurst YMCA, Kiwanis Club of Elmhurst, Elmhurst Junior Women’s Club and School District 205. At 1:30 p.m., visitors are invited to tour the McCormick House with exhibiting artist Claudia Weber to learn about her site-specific projects including research about the 1952 prefab prototype, various changing installations including works by other artists, interactions with visitors, and more.
Wednesday, March 30
A discussion and oral history of the McCormick House will be held at 1:30 p.m. at the Elmhurst Art Museum. Mies van der Rohe’s House has been part of Elmhurst’s history since it was built in 1952. Participate in recording memories of this historically significant building, including conversations with former McCormick House residents. Co-organized with the Elmhurst History Museum.
Sunday, March 31
From 2-3 p.m., a re-enactment of the Lincoln vs. Douglas Debate will take place at Elmhurst City Council Chambers. Political gladiators Abraham Lincoln, played by George Buss, and Stephen Douglas, by Tim Connors, will recreate highlights from this historic series of seven debates that took place across Illinois during the turbulent times of the 1850s as America spiraled toward Civil War. - Widows or Widowers (WOW) meet every third Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 537 S. York Road. WOW lends support and provides social activities for those who have lost a spouse.
