The Elmhurst Police Department recently reported the following arrests and citations. Persons charged with domestic battery are not named in order to protect the privacy of victims. Readers are reminded that an arrest does not constitute a conviction, and that subjects are considered innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law. Juveniles age 17-or-younger are not named.
Assault, battery
Feb. 5
Police said an argument between two co-workers occurred over the suspect being fired in the 700 block of S. Euclid at around 2:50 p.m. The suspect allegedly swung at the victim with a closed fist but did not make contact and left the scene. A witness told police that he held back the suspect from charging after the victim and told him, “It wasn’t worth it” before he left the scene. The victim wishes to press charges.
Criminal damage to property
Jan. 28
Police said a suspect at a bank in the 300 block of S. Route 83 attempted to withdraw funds from his account at around 5:08 p.m. Upon learning that the funds were not yet available, he became upset and kicked a cubical wall, causing a dent. The suspect was served with a no trespass notice and his account was closed.
Disorderly conduct
Feb. 3
Bayartsetseg B. Enkhee, 29, of Elmhurst, was issued citations for disorderly conduct/public intoxication in the 100 block of S. York at around 12:06 a.m. while Christopher W. Wright, 52, of Elmhurst, was charged with carrying a concealed weapon while under the influence of alcohol. Police said Wright was found to be highly intoxicated and was carrying a concealed firearm.

Feb. 6
A victim in the 500 block of W. North told police at around 2:32 p.m. that she was involved in an argument with her husband while at their place of business. The argument escalated and reportedly became physical when she started video recording the argument with her cell phone. Police said the suspect approached her and grabbed her wrists in an attempt to remove the cell phone from her possession. According to police, the victim said they struggled briefly, and she then gave up, not wanting the incident to escalate further. An investigation is pending.
Feb. 4
A victim told police at around 5:10 p.m. that he and the suspect had a verbal argument about attending school on the above date. The victim stated that the suspect struck him on the arm, and the victim then struck the suspect. The suspect denied striking the victim. Due to conflicting stories and insufficient evidence, no arrests were made. Arrangements were made for the victim to spend the night at his mother’s residence.
Feb. 2
A 33-year-old Elmhurst woman was charged with domestic battery while a 34-year-old Elmhurst man was charged with interfering with the reporting of a domestic in the 800 block of N. Geneva at around 9:07 a.m.
Police said that subsequent to a verbal argument at around 6:19 p.m., a juvenile suspect punched the victim in the forehead, knocking her to the ground. The suspect allegedly fled the scene on foot, but was located, arrested and transported to the police station. The suspect will be referred to DuPage County Jail Probation and was released to a family member.

A victim in the 600 block of W. North told police at around 8:34 p.m. that while working out at a fitness center, the suspect and a mutual acquaintance also were working out and engaged in an argument with the victim. At one point, the suspect allegedly punched the victim, who declined to pursue the incident.
Jan. 28
A 23-year-old Elmhurst man was charged with two counts of domestic battery in the 600 block of W. Crockett at around 9:24 p.m. A victim told police that subsequent to a verbal argument, the suspect allegedly grabbed her by the shirt and caused it to rip. He then reportedly grabbed her by the right bicep and forearm, which caused red marks. Officers observed red marks on the victim’s forearm and bicep.

Devin A. Sharp, 29, of Chicago, was charged with DUI and endangering the life of a child near York and Third at around 3:53 a.m. Police said an officer observed Sharp asleep behind the wheel with a child asleep in the vehicle.

Shane McMahon, 44, of Elmhurst, was charged with DUI, possession of cannabis, possession of drug paraphernalia and improper lane usage near Surf and West at around 10:04 p.m.
Fleeing, eluding
Feb. 4
Police said that subsequent to a traffic stop near North and Villa at around 12:47 a.m., the driver fled the area at a high rate of speed in a dark blue Toyota Corolla with a paper Indiana temporary dealer plate. Officers did not engage in a pursuit with the vehicle. The Carol Stream Police Department later attempted to stop the vehicle in an apartment complex parking lot, and the vehicle fled the area. Chicago police were contacted to check the address of the registered owner.

Feb. 5
A complainant in the 100 block of W. Park told police at around 7:04 a.m. that she found a paper bag on the counter with a threatening note. An investigation is pending.

A victim in the 600 block of N. Michigan told police at around 2:34 p.m. she was contacted on Facebook by an unknown suspect. The suspect requested sexual favors and nude photos from the victim. The suspect then sent a nude photo of the victim, to the victim.

Jordan M. Wilson, 19, of Westchester, was issued citations for possession of cannabis and failure to wear a seat belt subsequent to a traffic stop near Route 83 and St. Charles at around 10:37 p.m.

David P. Portis, 27, of Chicago, a passenger in a vehicle, was issued a citation for possession of cannabis subsequent to a traffic stop near St. Charles and Fair at around 1:56 a.m.

Gaetano Traversa, 29, of Roselle, was charged with possession of a controlled substance, driving while license revoked, tinted windows and no insurance subsequent to a traffic stop near York and Roosevelt at around 5:58 p.m. Police said Traversa was found to be in possession of heroin.

Nicolas Ochoa, 33, of Warren, Ohio, was issued citations for possession of cannabis, possession of drug paraphernalia and disobeying a traffic control device subsequent to a traffic stop near St. Charles and Route 83 at around 3:47 p.m.
Martese D. Pope, 21, of Chicago, was issued a citation for possession of cannabis in the 600 block of N. York at around 12:27 p.m.
Suspicious circumstances
Jan. 29
A victim in the 600 block of W. Belden advised at 11:12 a.m. that she has received numerous phone calls and voice mail messages from an unknown person. A reporting officer contacted the suspect who stated his 4-year-old son sometimes uses his phone and has been known to call random phone numbers. The suspect was advised to not have any further contact with the victim.
A victim in the 100 block of Cottage Hill told police at around 4:59 p.m. that a suspect has been sending Snap Chat messages to the victim’s 14-year-old daughter. The victim had blocked the suspect from sending messages to her. On the above date, the victim noticed a blue Honda sedan was parked outside her apartment building. When the victim drove from the area, the Honda followed her from her home address to the area of York and North. The victim recognized the driver of the Honda as a relative of the suspect. The victim has not seen the vehicle since that date.

Feb. 6
Saad Jarral, 25, of Chicago, was charged with one count of misdemeanor theft at a store in the 300 block of S. Route 83 at around 2:04 p.m. Police said it was learned that Jarral had cut the security sensor on a pair of shoes and put them on. Jarral then allegedly selected other merchandise with a value of $285 and concealed it on his person before exiting the store without paying. Police said Jarral admitted to taking the items.
Identity theft was reported in the 300 block of E. South at around 8:38 a.m. A victim told police that an unknown suspect had been using her Social Security number to apply for a credit card. The victim was advised to inform her bank and monitor her credit.
Retail theft was reported at a store in the 300 block of S. Route 83 at around 11:17 a.m. A victim told police that three suspects—two described as black females and one described as a black male—entered the store and stole numerous Nike sweatshirts and sweatpants. The suspects left the scene northbound on Route 83 in a silver-and-white Nissan Sentra with Minnesota license plates.
Identity theft was reported in the 500 block of Webster at around 11:57 a.m. A victim told police he received an email from Chase Bank confirming his lost debit card. The victim notified Chase, stating he never lost his debit card and discovered that two fraudulent withdrawals were made from his checking account. The card has been cancelled and complaints will be signed.
April 1, 2018-Feb. 5
A victim in the 700 block of S. Euclid told police that she received two tollway bills. The victim stated that someone had been using her old license plates. The victim contacted the tollway agency and notified them of the issue. The license plate was placed into LEADS as missing or stolen.
Feb. 4
Chandler P. Forester, 20, of Ramsey, Minn., was issued a citation for possession of fraudulent identification at around 11:41 a.m. Police said a reporting officer responded to Elmhurst College for a report of a found wallet. The reporting officer spoke to college security, which advised it located a black bifold wallet which contained fraudulent driver’s license, according to police.
A victim in the 200 block of S. West told police at around 6:41 p.m. that she used a taxi service after shopping and gave the taxi driver her credit card to pay for the fare. The driver allegedly left the scene without returning the victim’s credit card. She then noticed her wallet, containing her Illinois driver’s license, was not in her possession. She believes she left her wallet in the back seat of the taxi. The victim cancelled her credit card prior to any unauthorized charges. Her driver’s license was entered into LEADS. An investigation is pending.
Feb. 2
Burglary to a vehicle was reported in the 100 block of E. Schiller at around 7:43 p.m. A victim told police he left his vehicle unlocked and unattended. When he returned to the vehicle, he discovered his backpack containing pay stubs, his 1099 tax form and W2 form, and personal items were missing from the front passenger seat.

Deceptive practice was reported in the 200 block of S. Lawndale at around 12:44 p.m. A victim told police he received an email inquiring if he would like to be employed as a mystery shopper. The victim received a fraudulent cashier’s check from the suspect. The victim purchased eBay cards and provided the security codes as instructed. The victim’s bank informed the victim that the cashier’s check was fraudulent.
Jan. 29
Police said officers observed an occupied suspicious vehicle in the parking lot of a store in the 100 block of E. Schiller at around 5:15 p.m. According to police, the vehicle was reported stolen by the Chicago Police Department. Officers made contact with the driver, Ray A. Chism, 27, of Chicago, and placed him into custody. According to police, Brent Childers, 29, of Chicago, exited the store and was found to have stolen over the counter medication in his possession. Childers was charged with retail theft, burglary, unlawful possession of a hypodermic syringe and possession of drug paraphernalia. Chism was charged with retail theft, no valid driver’s license and no insurance.

Retail theft was reported at a store in the 300 block of S. Route 83 at around 1:41 p.m. A complainant told police that a juvenile suspect was observed on video surveillance placing $140.38 of merchandise into his backpack. The suspect was taken into custody, transported to the police station, and his parents were contacted. He was charged with retail theft and was released to his parents.

Forgery and identity theft were reported at a bank in the 100 block of N. York between the above dates. A victim reported that an unknown suspect used his personal information to cash fraudulent checks and withdraw money from his checking account. The victim advised one of the fraudulent checks had a been signed, deposited and cashed at an ATM in Elmhurst. An investigation is pending.

Theft was reported at a restaurant in the 1000 block of S. York between the above dates. Police said the restaurant manager reported that a cash deposit was missing from the safe.

Identity theft was reported in the 400 block of Willow. A victim told police that he received billing statements from Verizon and AT&T for two phones, both of which were purchased fraudulently by using the victim’s identity.
Sept. 1-Nov. 30, 2018
A victim in the 200 block of N Maison Court told police that over the past several months, he started to notice missing silverware, knives and bottles of liquor from his residence. He suspects his cleaning company is behind the thefts. The victim does not want to pursue charges, but wants reimbursement from the cleaning company.

Identity theft was reported in the 700 block of Bryan between the above dates. A victim told police that he received a collection notice for a delinquent insurance policy. The victim contacted the insurance company and learned that an unknown suspect(s) used his personal information to create an insurance policy and insured his car through that company. The victim filed the report for documentation purposes only and will not sign complaints.
Oct. 1, 2016-Feb. 28, 2017
Identity theft was reported in the 500 block of N. Michigan. A victim told police that an unknown suspect(s) used his name and Social Security number to open a Comcast account sometime between the above dates. There is no dollar loss. A report was made for matter of record.

Feb. 6
Police said Austin Morrissey, 24, of Elmhurst, turned himself in on a warrant out of the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office in the 100 block of E. First at around 10:08 a.m.
Feb. 2
Police said that subsequent to a traffic stop near Route 83 and North at around 12:53 p.m., Joshua C. Marsack, 40, of Lexington, Ill., was found to have an active original warrant from the McLean County Sheriff’s Office and was in possession of a metal smoking pipe and crystal methamphetamine. Marsack also was charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and no insurance.
