RACHEL ANNE FRESE
Rachel Anne Frese, nee Schultz, age 77, of Lombard died Jan. 28 at her home.
Rachel was the beloved wife of Paul M. for 52 years; loving mother of Elizabeth (Michael) Sawyer of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Jonathan (Mary) of Deerfield, and James (Laura) of St. Paul, Minnesota; adored grandmother of Adam Sawyer, Mikkel Sawyer, Erik Sawyer, Greta Frese, Elinor Frese, Noah Frese and Elijah Frese; sister of Ruth Treichel, Mark Schultz and Stephen Schultz.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Rev. Frank and Elsie (nee Klinckerman) Schultz; 3 sisters, Mary Zimmerman, Janet Moll and Rebecca Levesque; and a brother, David Schultz.
Funeral Services were held Monday, Feb. 4, at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 215 S. Lincoln St., Lombard. Interment followed at Forest Hill Cemetery, Glen Ellyn.
Rachel was born in Galesburg. She was Confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Dubuque, Iowa. She attended school in Dubuque, Hubbard and Eldora, Iowa, and graduated from Concordia Teachers College in Seward, Nebraska.
Rachel taught in Lutheran Schools in Flint, Michigan, Rock Island and Melrose Park. She worked as a teacher’s aide in School Districts 44, 48 and 88 (at Willowbrook High School.) Rachel was the organist at St. Timothy Lutheran Church, Lombard, for 30 years (from 1989-2019.) She celebrated her 30th anniversary there on January 6, 2019.
Rachel was a faithful choir member at St. John’s and Trinity Lutheran churches. She was an FHP volunteer pianist at Lombard Place and a volunteer at the Deicke Home.
Rachel was a devoted wife and a caring, loving mother. She had a strong faith in her Lord Jesus Christ and was determined to live a life of service in spite of her 24-year battle with various cancers.
She had a broken body but not a broken spirit.
