The York girls gymnastics team hosted regional competition earlier this week.
The Dukes, who competed in the West Suburban Conference Silver Division meet this past weekend, finished the regular season with a 3-2 mark in conference.
York also took second as a team at the Niles North invitational and third at the York invitational.
Individually, Maryalice Shockey and Angelina Deblasio each scored about 9.0 on the beam in a recent WSC Silver dual meet against Downers Grove North.
Lailah Waddell also won the vault individual title at Niles North with a 9.4 and Megan Cronin won the bars crown at Niles North with a 9.05.
“We are learning that new skills are not necessarily good skills and that sometimes practicing what you have is more important than learning something different just because it’s flashy,” said York coach Anthony Colant.
Colant noted York has excelled on bars this season. “We now have all five girls with advanced high superior dismounts and releases,” he said.
Colant said Cronin and Sydney Hill, in particular, have stepped things up of late. “Megan and Sydney both have done a great job of pulling themselves together for the end of the season and have really stepped up their work ethic to try and make it to state this year,” he said.
