DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert B. Berlin and Carol Stream Chief of Police Ed Sailer announced last week that bond has been set at $250,000 with 10% to apply for a Carol Stream volleyball coach charged with possession of child pornography. Michael Liedtke, 34, of Streamwood, appeared at a bond hearing where he was charged with two counts of Possession of Child Pornography (Class X Felony) and two counts of Unauthorized Videotaping (Class 3 Felony).
On January 21, 2019, Carol Stream Police responded to a claim of possible unauthorized videotaping at an athletic facility located at 115 Alexandra Way. An investigation into the claim revealed a video camera hidden in a ceiling tile in a public bathroom at the location. The wiring on the video camera allegedly led to a computer located in the office of Liedtke, a volleyball coach who owns Xcel Athletics which operates at the facility. An inspection of the computer allegedly revealed numerous images of patrons, including minors, as they used the washroom. It is further alleged that Liedtke also possessed images of child pornography on his cellular telephone. Liedtke turned himself in to the Carol Stream Police Department yesterday.
“The allegations against Mr. Liedtke are, in a word, sickening,” Berlin said. “He allegedly violated not only the privacy of patrons at the facility, but also the trust placed in him by the parents of the athletes he trained. The disgusting behavior alleged in this case will be met with the full force of the law.”
Liedtke’s next court appearance is scheduled for February 28, 2019, in front of Judge Brian Telander. Additional conditions for Liedtke, should he be able to post bond, include no contact with children under 18 years of age.
