People, places and things: Photography by Audrey Lowe. Recurring weekly on Sunday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from noon-5 p.m. at the Elmhurst Art Museum, 150 Cottage Hill Ave., Lowe invites the public to experience her evocative solo exhibition of a life’s work of photography art. Proceeds from sales will benefit Glioblastoma Research. The exhibition will culminate with a closing reception on Jan. 30 from 7-9 p.m. Free and open to the public. Winter Stitch-Along. Presented by the Elmhurst Public Library, and recurring weekly on Sundays, a stitch-along is a mystery cross-stitch pattern where new parts of the design are released each week. Every Sunday, the library will send you the next piece until you have a completed pattern. This is an asynchronous program where everyone stitches at their own pace. This year’s theme is folk art. 12th annual Organic Seedlings Sale. The First Congregational United Church of Christ’s twelfth annual Organic Seedlings Sale is kicking off now. Preorder seedlings through Feb. 28 and then pick them up at the church’s Green Garden Fair from 9 a.m.-noon on Saturday, May 9. The church is located at 235 S. Kenilworth in Elmhurst. Certified organic vegetable and herb seedlings will be available as well as annual flower seedlings. Choose from your old favorite varieties from prior years as well as fun new varieties. Snapshots in Time: 250 Years of Elmhurst History Lecture. Starting at 1 p.m. at the Elmhurst History Museum, 120 E. Park Ave., join Dave Oberg, executive director of the Elmhurst History Museum, in celebrating America’s 250th anniversary. At 1 p.m., enjoy a special flag raising ceremony and then head into the Education Center for a special lecture on Elmhurst history at 1:30 p.m. Presented in 25-year intervals, this lecture will provide a 250-year retrospective on how the area we call Elmhurst today has changed over time. This talk covers the vast and sweeping changes our area has seen, from the time when Pypegee strolled along the banks of the Wewanippissee (now called Salt Creek), through the arrival of the iron horse, incorporation under Village President Henry Glos, explosive growth in the 1920s and 1960s, and a new era of construction in the 21st century. Free for members; $8 for nonmembers.

Appalachian Spring concert. From 3-5 p.m. presented by the Elmhurst Symphony Orchestra at the Elmhurst Christian Reformed Church, 149 W. Brush Hill Road, the orchestra celebrates America at 250 with Appalachian Spring. Maestro Stephen Alltop leads the Elmhurst Symphony Orchestra in an all-American Program. Program highlights include: Aaron Copland, Appalachian Spring; Eric Ewazen, Sinfonia for Strings; Jessie Montgomery, Strum; and James Stephenson, Persephone. MLK Day of Service. Free at the Elmhurst Public Library from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. by building community through service projects. “Anatomy of Healthcare: DuPage County Medical History” opens. Presented free by the Elmhurst History Museum from 1-5 p.m., visit the museum to experience the rich history of health care in Elmhurst and explore how the community’s medical services have evolved over the years. From humble beginnings to modern-day advances, this exhibition will highlight the dedicated individuals, key moments, and transformative innovations that have shaped health care in the area. Discover the founding of Elmhurst Memorial Hospital, celebrating its 100th year, the development of medical technologies, and the stories of local pioneers who laid the groundwork for compassionate care.

Living with Modernism: Kelli Connell’s Pictures for Charis and Double Life. An opening reception will be held from 6-9 p.m. at the Elmhurst Art Museum for this exhibition—which presents two critical photography series by the Chicago-based contemporary artist Kelli Connell. Connell’s nationally traveling exhibition Pictures for Charis responds to the iconic photographs of modernist artist Edward Weston (included in the exhibition) through a queer, feminist lens. Her second major body of work, Double Life, explores the evolution of intimate relationships shaped by the changing nature of identity over time, and features new commissions
responding to the architecture of the Mies van der Rohe-designed McCormick House. For more information, visit:

Elmhurst Gives Back blood drive. From 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Elmhurst History Museum, 120 E. Park, join the Elmhurst History Museum during National Blood Donor Month in supporting our local community through donating life-saving blood with Vitalant. Just one donation can help save multiple lives. Guests are invited to donate on Vitalant’s Blood Donation Bus, and whether participating in the drive or not, can also explore the museum’s brand-new Anatomy of Healthcare: DuPage County Medical History exhibit.
