Dec. 5 program for seniors to address fraud

Rep. Diane Blair-Sherlock’s Senior Advisory Council Presents “Fraud Protection and Advocacy for Seniors” at York Township Senior Center, 1502 S. Meyers, Lombard, on Friday, Dec. 5, at 1 p.m. Join the Office of the Illinois Attorney General for a presentation for seniors to prevent consumer fraud and identity theft scams that are a frequent target at seniors, Topics to be discussed are understanding how recognize potential fraud attempts, learning how to be ready to stop the scams and reaching out to the attorney general’s Senior Help Line. Service league luncheon Nov. 30

Lombard Service League will be celebrating their 75th Anniversary as a club at their annual Fundraising Luncheon on Nov. 30 at Carlisle Banquets. During the luncheon, the past Lombard Women of the Year will be introduced and the speaker for the luncheon will be Kristin Senne, executive director of Humanitarian Service Project, which is one of the philanthropies that Lombard Service League members support. Included with a delicious luncheon of either chicken or pork. the members and guests of Lombard Service League are invited to participate in the Gift Card Draw, Wine Bottle Pull, Split the Pot, Silent Auction and Door Prize drawing. All proceeds from the luncheon will be used to support local high school scholarships, causes that benefit those in need in the Lombard area and special projects of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs. Cosley Zoo Festival of Lights Nov. 28-Dec. 30

Cosley Zoo’s Festival of Lights and Christmas Tree Sale beginning Nov. 28 and continuing through Dec. 30. Shoppers looking for Christmas trees will find a variety of evergreens to choose from including Fraser, Canaan and Douglas firs. Trees come in all sizes, from four-foot-tall trees for smaller spaces to 11-foot-tall that look majestic towering under cathedral ceilings. Come shop among the animals in a festive atmosphere for your tree, wreaths and garlands. The zoo will be open daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. There is no admission fee during the festival; donations are encouraged. Visitors will find other holiday treasures inside the Wild Side Gift Shop. In addition to zoo-themed gifts, the shop will host the Wish Tree for the Animals. By purchasing an ornament, shoppers can give gifts to specific Cosley Zoo animals. From 3 to 9 p.m. weekdays, hot chocolate will be sold at the Coyote Café.

Historical society closed for the holiday

The Lombard Historical Society Office and all historic sites will be closed Wednesday, Nov. 26, through Friday, Nov. 28, to allow staff and volunteers time to celebrate the holidays. We will reopen Saturday, Nov. 29.

Recycling event in Glendale Heights Dec. 10

Rep. Diane Blair-Sherlock will host a “What Can you Recycle” event at Glenside Library, 25 E. Fullerton, Room 1, Glendale Heights, Dec 10 from 7-8:30 p.m. Confused about what you can recycle? Join us for a recycling seminar presented by Kay McKeen, founder of SCARE and representative on Blair-Sherlock’s Environmental Advisory Council.

GPS program Dec. 2

On Tuesday, Dec. 2, the GPS Parent Series will present “Shift: Managing Your Emotions So They Don’t Manage You—The Innate Skills to be Healthier and More Successful” with acclaimed psychologist Dr. Ethan Kross at noon and 7 p.m. via Zoom. Participants will learn simple strategies to master emotional decision-making for a happier, healthier and more productive life. Kross will also dispel the myths and provide a framework for how we can best navigate emotions without them controlling us—and help others do the same.
