York High School invites Elmhurst community to honor local veterans

York Community High School is proud to invite veterans, their families and the entire Elmhurst community to join them in honoring the service and sacrifice of our nation’s heroes during two special events celebrating Veterans Day this November.

The celebration begins with a Veterans Day Breakfast on Saturday, Nov. 8, from 9-11 a.m. in the York Community High School cafeteria (355 W. St. Charles Road, Elmhurst). Hosted by York’s Student Council, the free breakfast is an opportunity for veterans and their families to gather, connect, and be celebrated by the school community. Guests are asked to enter through the school’s main entrance.

The commemoration continues with York’s annual Veterans Day Assembly on Tuesday, Nov. 11, from 8-9 a.m. in the Campbell Gym. All veterans are warmly invited to attend and be recognized during this all-school assembly, which will feature remarks from U.S. veterans, York students and school administrators. Veterans are encouraged to arrive at 7:15 a.m. for complimentary coffee, donuts, pastries, and bagels in the Yorker Room prior to the ceremony.

Those planning to attend either event are asked to RSVP to Student Council Advisor Matt Moran by email at MMoran@elmhurst205.org or by phone at 630-617-2400 x7285. Please leave a message with the number of attendees; while return calls are unlikely, the information will help organizers prepare appropriately.
