On Saturday, March 9, the Elmhurst St. Patrick’s Day Parade will step off at 12 noon marching along Spring Road, beginning at Wilson St. heading north, ending at the railroad tracks one block south of St. Charles Rd. Enjoy Irish dancers, Shannon Rovers, Chicago Highlanders, Medinah clowns in their tiny cars, the York High School marching band and much more. Keep a lookout for the Elmhurst Armpit Orchestra which will be marching down the street with “Mary,” the world’s largest bass drum, and with a brand-new Parade Queen.
This year’s Grand Marshal is the Community Bank of Elmhurst, a true community-based bank not only because of their outstanding services but also due to their generous outpouring of support to the community of Elmhurst – its businesses, its families, and especially, its veterans. Be sure to give a wave as they pass by.
As always, the parade is expected to attract a large crowd to our cozy but vibrant western suburb. Ample parking, security and solid planning always make for comfortable viewing conditions for all members of the family. Bring your lawn chairs if you’re on the grass, but in the Spring Road Business District, it will be too busy and too crowded for anything but walking.
The parade will include floats, marching units and animated characters, along with local organizations, businesses and elected officials. Watch for Elmhurst police and fire officials. They are on hand to make sure everyone is safe.
After the parade, stick around Spring Road and visit the many merchants, restauranteurs and friends who will spend the day enjoying this community celebration.
