City’s electronics, textile recycling event set for Jan. 27

In cooperation with DuPage County, the City will host an Electronics and Textile/Clothing Recycling event on Saturday, Jan. 27 from 8 a.m. until 12 noon at the City’s Public Works facility, 985 S Riverside Drive. This is first of four recycling events planned quarterly at the Public Works facility with DuPage County. The other events will be held on the Saturdays of April 27, July 27, and Oct. 26.

Acceptable electronic items

Computers, laptops, servers, computer monitors, televisions, printers, FAX machines, scanners, VCR and DVD players, video game consoles, cable and converter boxes, satellite receivers, electronic keyboards, mice, portable music players, holiday string lights, wire, cables, adapters, power supplies, cell phones, modems, tablets, phones, docking stations.

All acceptable items are FREE to donate, EXCLUDING the following: CRT, flat screens, projection TVs, monitors. Fees are:

•   Smaller than 21-inch screen = $25 per unit

•   21-inch screen and larger = $35 per unit

Payments:

•   A tax-deductible donation fee applies for all TVs and monitors.

•   Cash or credit card accepted, no checks.

•   Payment may be made in advance at recycling.eworksesi.org or on site at the event. Coupon and tax-deductible receipts will be provided at the time of drop-off.

Unacceptable electronic items

Large and small appliances, electronics from businesses, hazardous and chemical waste will NOT be accepted.

Textile and clothing recycling

Don’t use it? Don’t wear it? Don’t like it? DuPage County has partnered with eWorks and RewearAble to collect clothing and textiles for reuse and recycling. Items not able to be reused will be turned into cleaning/painting rags or reused in insulation, as packing material or carpeting. RewearAble is a non-profit that provides sustainable employment for adults with disabilities.

Packaging specifications

•   Please ensure all of the textiles are dry

•   Remove all hangers

•   Remove any sharp objects

Items of any kind that are WET OR DIRTY will NOT be accepted.

Acceptable categories

•   Clothes ANY KIND: tops, bottoms, socks, outerwear, underwear, accessories, paired shoes, suits, swimsuits

•   Shoes

•   Handbags

•   Bedding

•   Belts

•   Towels

•   Coats, hats, scarfs, gloves

•   Household items such as tablecloths (cloth), cloth napkins, placemats

•   Bathing suits, coverups and baseball caps

Unacceptable items:

Wet items, kitchen supplies, hard items, sharp items, wood, office supplies, hard toys, glass items, tools, appliances, paper, games, books, strollers, metal items, dishes, lamps, blinds, wrapping paper, car seats, puzzles, figurines, plastic items, wall to wall rugs.
