Last weekend, a post was found on an app called Nextdoor that claimed a York High School student had a taser during lunch period last Thursday, meaning Nov. 30. This prompted a call to Elmhurst School District 205, which denied that any such incident happened.
The post on Nextdoor read as follows:
“Any word on the student(s) who were found with a Tazer(sp) during lunch on Thursday? I’d elaborate further, but I’d probably get reported for it and suspended for the 10th time. Regardless, that is very concerning, especially when there has not been any sort of communication with parents. “To possess a tazer(sp) in Illinois, one has to obtain a FOID card, the police typically charge individuals with unlawful use of a weapon, a class 2 felony, if somone(sp) is found without one. I recommend parents start inquiring about this to the school and the police department. would the school be this quiet if a gun was found? A knife? Or is when the student is of a certain herritage(sp) they let it slide?”
Next post:
“yes york, I have a student there and that is how I found out about this.”
Next post:
“Nobody is asking for names or what punishments are handed down, although it would be nice to know that the student(s) are no longer in school, or whether or not the police are involved. Parents need to be shown that the school is handling the situation in a way that reassures them of the safety of their child. Hiding this from the parents is very concerning, then again this district has had a history of keeping secrets. We got notified when there was a noose found, because it was supposed racism, but we ended up finding out that it wasn’t anything of the sort.”
In an email exchange, District 205’s Tonya Daniels, executive director, communication and community relations, said the information is not true.
“I have confirmed with the York High School building leadership that this is not an accurate story and there was not a taser brought into the school,” Daniels said.
