Subject returns rental car, leaves gun inside

A complainant in the 800 block of N. York told police that he returned his rental car to Avis and forgot his silver handgun in a combination case under the passenger seat. The complainant contacted Avis who reported the firearm had not been located. The firearm was entered into LEADS as lost.

Suspects stand in crosswalk, block traffic

On Oct. 2, police said officers responded to the 300 block of S. Route 83 at 4:28 p.m. for the report of a disturbance. Upon arrival, a victim related the suspects were standing in the crosswalk preventing vehicles from passing. The victim honked her horn at the suspects who then approached her vehicle and began banging on it. Police said the suspects denied ever touching the victim’s vehicle. An investigation is pending.

Disturbing phone call found to be hoax

On Sept. 28, a victim in the 500 block of S. Swain told police they received a scam phone call where an unknown suspect stated his parents were being held at gunpoint in Wheaton and demanded payment through Bitcoin. The Wheaton Police Department checked the parents’ residence and found that they were safe.

Hooded suspects attempt to enter five cars

On Oct. 2, police said two suspects in hooded shirts and masks exited a white Porsche SUV and attempted to gain entry into five vehicles in the 500 block of W. Gladys at 7:06 a.m. A garage door opener from an unlocked vehicle was used to gain entry inside an attached garage; however that vehicle was locked. The Porsche SUV was determined to be stolen from Lombard earlier in the morning.

Suspect sends threats, shows up at victim’s work

On Oct. 1, a victim in the 600 block of S. Spring told police that a suspect has been sending threatening messages. The victim has attempted to block the suspect who then showed up at the victim’s work and damaged his vehicle. The reporting officer attempted to contact the suspect with no results.
