The Elmhurst Police Department recently reported the following arrests and citations. Persons charged with domestic battery are not named in order to protect the privacy of victims. Readers are reminded that an arrest does not constitute a conviction, and that subjects are considered innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law. Juveniles age 17-or-younger are not named.
Armed habitual criminal
Oct. 1
Police said that subsequent to an investigation in the 500 block of W. Grand, Jahmal J. Lee, 49, of Elmhurst, was found to be a convicted felon in possession of firearms. Lee was charged with two counts of armed habitual criminal.
Criminal damage
Oct. 4
A complainant at a church in the 400 block of N. West told police that an unknown suspect(s) removed several white crosses from the ground that were displayed on the front lawn.
Domestic battery, domestic incident, disorderly conduct, disturbance
Oct. 4
A 64-year-old Villa Park man was charged with two counts of domestic battery in the 100 block of N. Addison at 11:14 p.m.
Oct. 1
A 35-year-old man from Gary, Ind., was charged with domestic battery and interference with reporting domestic violence in the 100 block of Fellows at 9:28 a.m.
A complainant in the 200 block of S. Grace reported her soon to be ex-husband was knocking on her door. Officers located the subject who stated he went to the home to try to get back his property. The complainant is working on obtaining an order of protection.
DUI, DUI-drugs, transportation of open alcohol, possession of open alcohol, consumption of alcohol by a minor
Oct. 3
Vanessa Hentz, 48, of Chicago, was charged with DUI, improper lane usage and no insurance subsequent to a traffic stop near St. Charles and Poplar at 12:06 a.m.
Hector B. Sok, 25, of Elmhurst, was charged with DUI, unlawful possession of nitrous oxide, transportation or possession of open alcohol by a driver and unlawful possession of cannabis by a driver in the 500 block of W. Lake at 11:54 p.m.
Oct. 1
Anderson Salcedo-Moreno, 24, of Cicero, was charged with DUI, unlawful possession of cannabis, no valid driver’s license, speeding, improper lane usage, tinted windows and no insurance subsequent to a traffic stop near North and Berteau at 3:44 a.m.
Sept. 29
Jacob Mertic, 34, of Chicago, was charged with DUI, improper lane usage and leaving the scene of an accident in the 600 block of N. York at 3:25 p.m.
Sept. 28
David E. Aldana Hernandez, 36, of Glendale Heights, was issued a citation for possession of open alcohol by a passenger subsequent to a traffic stop in the 500 block of W. North at 12:10 a.m.
Harassments, threats
Sept. 29
A victim in the 700 block of S. Fairview reported the suspect called him several times and left threatening voicemails. This case is pending investigation.
Sept. 25
A victim in the 200 block of E. North told police that a suspect sent threatening text messages. The officer spoke with the suspect who admitted to sending the threatening text messages. Charges are pending.
Identity theft, fraud
According to information provided by the Elmhurst Police Department, police reported four incidents of identity theft or fraud.
Order of protection
Sept. 28
A victim in the 200 block of E. North told police the suspect was outside his home and has an order of protection against her. The order of protection was served and the suspect left the property. The victim was found to have a valid warrant out of DuPage County and was taken into custody. The victim was transported to the police station where he was released with a new court date.
Possession of a controlled substance
Oct. 2
Syed Hassan, 27, of Des Plaines, was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance, improper lighting, no valid license and no insurance subsequent to a traffic stop near Lake and York at 11:50 p.m.
Theft, burglary, attempted theft or burglary, forgery, deceptive practice, obstruction, robbery
Oct. 2
A victim in the 800 block of N. York told police that an unknown suspect(s) stole her package from the mail room in her condominium.
Sept. 29
A victim in the 200 block of N. West told police she received an email from PayPal reference an alleged purchase she made in Peru. The victim contacted the phone number provided and spoke to an unknown suspect purporting to be a customer service representative. The unknown suspect requested the victim purchase gift cards to resolve the issue. The victim purchased the gift cards and provided the information to the unknown suspect.
A victim related unknown suspect(s) removed a package that was delivered to his apartment complex at Elm Creek Drive at 11:18 a.m.
Theft of catalytic converters
According to information provided last week by the Elmhurst Police Department, police reported three incidents of catalytic converters being removed and stolen from a vehicle.
Retail theft
Sept. 1-Oct. 2
Police said the manager of a store in the 200 block of N. York states sometime between the above dates, an unknown suspect(s) removed a blue, Apple iPad 10th Gen 64 GM from the display models on the sales floor.
Vandalism
Sept. 30-Oct. 1
A complainant at a church in the 400 block of N. West reported approximately 1,000 wooden crosses were pulled out and left lying on the church lawn. An investigation is pending.
