Update 7/8 at 4pm – Precautionary boil order remains pending test results.

Southeast Elmhurst has been placed on a precautionary boil order since Wednesday, July 5th due to a broken water main in the area. Saturday’s IEPA round of water testing samples passed, however the precautionary boil order remains in place pending Sunday’s test resultsDue to an initial failed water test, IEPA laws require new samples must be collected and tested over a two-day period.

Staff has delivered Saturday’s round of samples to the laboratory. If this test passes, the boil order will be lifted. The time needed for lab testing is required by law for the safety of our drinking water.

While the precautionary boil order remains in place, water for consumption in the mapped area should be boiled for at least 5 minutes. Water can still be used to bathe and clean.

Once the boil order is lifted, we will be updating the impacted neighborhood through CodeRed messaging and City News Alerts on Elmhurst.org. We have also partnered with DuPage County’s Office of Homeland Security & Emergency Management to send IPAWS emergency messages to all cell phone users who enter the precautionary boil order area.

We thank you for your patience as we work on resolving this issue and appreciate your community support in sharing this news with neighbors without cell phones or connection to the City’s communication channels.

Our next update is anticipated to be Sunday, July 9th at 4 p.m.
