JUSTIN SUSZEK
Justin “Lefty” Suszek, age 90 of Lombard, formerly of Norridge, passed away on March 21, 2023 – on his 70th wedding anniversary – surrounded by his family.
Lefty was the dear husband of 61 years to the late Dorothy, née Kriss. Loving dad to Laurel (Lee) Lesch of Antioch, Jeff (Jackie) Suszek of Lombard, and Linda (Ron) Paganucci of Lombard. Dearest Papa to Brianne (Tony) Turano of Lake Zurich, Brandon (Katie) Lesch of Barrington, Derek Suszek of Lombard, Brad (Serra) Suszek of St. Charles, Lindsey Paganucci of Chicago, Kayla Suszek of Wisconsin, Brittany Paganucci of Lombard. Great grandfather to Gianna Turano, Isabella Turano, Landon Suszek, and Ayla Suszek. Friend and relative to many.
Lefty made the most of his time at Sunrise. He volunteered daily while living there. He would show new residents around the building and talk to them about Sunrise. His family joked he was the ‘Mayor of Sunrise,’ often getting stopped in the hallway to chat with employees and fellow residents during his many years there.
Lefty was an avid fisherman. He would fish anywhere there was water. He would fish locally with his family and on vacations as well. He loved to go bowling and golf. He coached his own kids when they were young and attended many of his grandkids sporting events. He loved his family dearly, enjoying time spent with them. He was a fixture at their sporting events, graduations, and school functions.
Lefty was an avid Chicago sports fan, who told his grandchildren he would routinely skip school to attend Chicago Blackhawks or Cubs games – when tickets were less than $1.50. He often reminisced about the many major wins he was lucky to see – including the ’85 Bears, Michael Jordan’s double three-peat, multiple Blackhawks Stanley Cup celebrations, and of course the Cubs’ World Series win.
Lefty was happiest enjoying time with his family, with a Chicago team playing on the radio or TV.
Join us in celebrating him as we would want to be celebrated – not in formal mourning attire but in your favorite sports team jacket, jerseys, and athletic wear.
A Prayer Service and Military Honors were held March 26 at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard. Later interment at the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may go to a donation to the GoFundMe, https://gofund.me/845e1d42.
Even a small donation could help Catalina Dubbs reach their fundraising goal. And if you can’t make a donation, it would be great if you could share the fundraiser to help spread the word.
