Broncettes take eighth at state meet

Montini Catholic High School’s dance team—the Broncettes—participated in the IHSA competitive dance state meet on Friday, Jan. 27, and Saturday, Jan. 28, at Grossinger Motors Arena in Bloomington. The Broncettes earned their state-meet berth with a sixth-place finish in the 1A division at the Geneva Sectional on Jan. 21. The six highest-scoring teams in that sectional’s 11-team 1A division advanced to the state meet. Members of the Broncettes are pictured during the team’s sectional performance. Competing in the 30-team 1A division during the Jan. 27 preliminaries at the state meet, the Broncettes needed to place among the top 12 teams to advance to the Jan. 28 finals. Montini earned a berth in the finals with its 11th-place preliminary score of 80.13. The Broncettes’ routine in the finals received a score of 81.92, good for eighth place. Jacksonville won the 1A division’s state title with its score of 92.4. Morris placed second, while Highland, Marion and Carmel finished third, fourth and fifth, respectively. Evergreen Park claimed sixth, while Glenbard South placed seventh.
