A Thanksgiving tradition in Villa Park

Villa Park’s Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 2801 welcomed 46 recruits from Naval Station Great Lakes for a Thanksgiving celebration on Nov. 24. Volunteers waved American flags to welcome recruits to the post at about 9:30 a.m. The recruits spent about eight hours at the post, which is located at 39 E. St. Charles. In addition to enjoying a traditional Thanksgiving dinner, the recruits were able to communicate with loved ones. The recruits had not been able to talk with their family and friends since they began boot camp several weeks ago. The post has held Thanksgiving celebrations for recruits from Naval Station Great Lakes for many years, but the 2020 and 2021 events were canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
