In collaboration with the Villa Park Parks and Recreation Department, local theater company Saint Genesius Productions presented free outdoor productions of William Shakespeare’s “Much Ado About Nothing” this summer. The first of the matinee performances took place on Saturday, July 30, and Sunday, July 31, at the Rugaard Gazebo. There were two more performances at the gazebo on Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 6 and Aug. 7. Each matinee began at 3 p.m., and ran for about two and a half hours, including an intermission. The gazebo is located along the Illinois Prairie Path, just west of Ardmore Avenue. The production’s cast included actors from Villa Park and surrounding communities who are between the ages of 10 and 26. The performances in Villa Park, which were set within a backdrop of 1920s silent film-era Hollywood, included original music, lively choreography and slapstick fight scenes.
