• From 11 a.m. – 3 p.m., the Elmhurst History Museum will host a free Museum Maker Monday event featuring Ice Cream Necklaces. Kids and caregivers are invited to drop in to explore the exhibits on a day reserved for families only. Play games and bring a picnic to enjoy outdoors (weather permitting). This month, kids will make an Ice Cream Necklace Craft (while supplies last). Appropriate for elementary age children accompanied by an adult, no registration required. Curator of exhibits Dan Bartlett will lead participants through highlights of the “Eat Your Heart Out: Iconic Chicagoland Foods” exhibit. Includes exclusive access to museum galleries while hearing highlights about the culinary treats and treasures that were born out of Chicago’s diverse food scene. From 12 noon to 4 p.m., kids with special needs and their families are invited to “Special Kids Day, City Works!” at Elmhurst City Hall, 209 N. York St. Meet firefighters, paramedics, police officers, the public works team. Enjoy story time at the Elmhurst History Museum. • From 4-5:30 p.m., the Elmhurst History Museum, 120 E. Park Ave., invites you to hone your cooking skills with Chef Holston, Executive Chef at Cantigny, as he presents a pizza making workshop. Learn pizza history, decorate your own chef hat, and create a small personal-sized pizza to bake at home. Learn to make pizza dough from scratch. NOTE: Ingredients contain potential allergens including gluten, dairy, and corn (no substitutions available). Participants must sign a waiver. Ages 6+ with an adult. Limit: 25 participants

Hours are Thursday, 6-9 p.m. (Preview sale, $10 admission req.); Friday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Saturday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.; and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. $10 bag sale (fill a grocery bag with books for just $10). Books, CDs, DVDs can be donated at the Elmhurst Library, at Courts Plus or at Sandburg (preferred) from 9 a.m. to 12 noon.

Blawat provides historic context and fun facts about architectural gems by Wright, Mies, Walter Burley Griffin, R. Harold Zook, Dirk Lohan, and more. Elmhurst History Museum’s new exhibit
Opening June 24, ‘Eat Your Heart Out: Iconic Chicagoland Foods.’ Explore the history of many classic Chicago food traditions as well as the often colorful innovators and establishments that earned the devotion of generations of foodies, including Vienna Beef, Portillo’s, Lou Malnati’s and more. Elmhurst Art Museum’s
new exhibition opens
On Saturday, June 18, Nature’s Blueprints: Biomimicry in Art and Design opened at the Elmhurst Art Museum. It is a family-friendly show that features interactive learning stations that explore ways we can be inspired by nature’s incredibly resourceful designs. Featuring works by Chicago architect Alicia Ponce.
Complementing the Nature’s Blueprints exhibition this summer will be a solo show by Chicago painter Raúl Ortiz in the McCormick House. With a penchant for color and contrast, Ortiz combines a variety of different colors, patterns, and forms from multiple sources such as ethnographic patterns, architectural elements, and botanical forms.
