All-American house

Lombard resident Matt Riha (standing, far right) hosted an outdoor July 4 get-together for family at his house, located across from Madison Meadow park—something he has been doing for the past eight to nine years. As you can see here, many attendees come dressed in red, white and blue attire. Riha and the estimated 150 who attended the Fourth of July celebration were hoping to cap off the day by watching the annual fireworks display later that evening. However, the fireworks were canceled by the village on the recommendation of the DuPage Public Safety Committee and the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office, and out of an abundance of caution following the shootings at a Highland Park July 4 parade in which seven people were killed and more than 30 wounded. Lombard was one of several villages and cities throughout the Chicagoland area that canceled fireworks on July 4, but the village will be hosting its fireworks display at a later date.
