From 1 – 4 p.m., families are invited the Elmhurst Art Museum to discover the exciting world of butterflies through activities like creating an artistic booklet, drawing inspiration from symmetry, and more. Guests who complete four different hands-on activities win a special prize. Free with museum admission, registration required at elmhurstartmuseum.org.
Sunday, June 26
From 1-2:30 p.m., join Elmhurst-based architect Erica Blawat on an architectural walking tour of the surprisingly architecturally rich City of Elmhurst—the only city with houses by Frank Lloyd Wright and Mies van der Rohe. Blawat provides historic context and fun facts about architectural gems by Wright, Mies, Walter Burley Griffin, R. Harold Zook, Dirk Lohan, and more. Free with museum admission, registration required at elmhurstartmuseum.org. This program will be repeated on Saturday, Aug. 13 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Monday, June 27
From 11 a.m. – 3 p.m., the Elmhurst History Museum offers Museum Maker Monday, when kids are invited to drop in and explore exhibits, play games, make crafts, and bring a picnic to enjoy outdoors, weather permitting. This Monday features a Paper Plate Pizza craft project (while supplies last). Appropriate for elementary age children accompanied by an adult. Free, no registration required. The museum is located at 120 E. Park Ave.
Tuesday, June 28
General Primary Election takes place. Early voting is available at the DuPage Fairgrounds, as of May 19. Beginning June 13, 22 more Early Voting sites will be open.
Wednesday, June 29
• Beginning at 11:30 a.m., with a shotgun start at 12:30 p.m., the 5th annual York Dukes football golf outing will be held at White Pines Golf Club in Bensenville. Golf is $175 per person for 18 holes, cart, lunch, dinner, open bar; or $225 to include sponsoring a coach. Sponsorship opportunities available. • At 7 p.m., the Elmhurst University Summer Band will host its first concert, “American Pageant.” It will be held at the Gates of Knowledge on the campus. Concerts are free, bring lawn chairs, blankets, a picnic.

Monday, July 4
The Elmhurst Running Club’s 17th annual 4 on the 4th and Kids 1K (for ages 5-12) will step off at 7:15 a.m., with the kids run starting at 8:20 a.m. Both races start and finish on Prospect Ave. between Elmhurst University and Wilder Park. The 4-mile goes through neighborhoods and into City Centre before returning to the finish area. The Kids Race goes up and down Prospect. Register at 4on4th.com.
Sunday, July 10
From 1:30-4:30 p.m. the Elmhurst History Museum is throwing a Chicago foods celebration on the lawn with family-friendly games and crafts, face painting and live performances by the Scottie Long Duo and Leonardo Music. Visitors can explore the exhibit and see the Oscar Meyer Wienermobile and a vintage 1929 Vienna Beef delivery truck. Free small Rainbow Cones will be available to the first 300 guests (one/person, additional ice cream available for purchase after giveaway). Info: elmhursthistory.org.
Sunday, July 10
From 10 a.m. to the Elmhurst Garden Club (EGC) will host “An Afternoon in the Garden” Garden Walk & Boutique Faire, featuring six glorious private gardens and one public garden. Tickets are sold online only at elmhurstgardenclub.org, and are $18 per person until midnight Saturday, July 9, after which tickets will be $23 day of event. The Boutique Faire will feature garden plants, accessories, horticultural experts and more. Free and open to the public. Proceeds fund scholarships awarded to college/university students majoring in Horticulture, Environmental Studies, and other related sciences. Info: elmhurstgardenclub.org.

Elmhurst History Museum’s new exhibit
Opening June 24, ‘Eat Your Heart Out: Iconic Chicagoland Foods.’ Explore the history of many classic Chicago food traditions as well as the often colorful innovators and establishments that earned the devotion of generations of foodies, including Vienna Beef, Portillo’s, Lou Malnati’s and more. Elmhurst Art Museum’s
new exhibition opens
On Saturday, June 18, Nature’s Blueprints: Biomimicry in Art and Design opens at the Elmhurst Art Museum. It is a family-friendly show that features interactive learning stations that explore ways we can be inspired by nature’s incredibly resourceful designs. Featuring works by Chicago architect Alicia Ponce.
Complementing the Nature’s Blueprints exhibition this summer will be a solo show by Chicago painter Raúl Ortiz in the McCormick House. With a penchant for color and contrast, Ortiz combines a variety of different colors, patterns, and forms from multiple sources such as ethnographic patterns, architectural elements, and botanical forms.
