U.S. Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi recently visited Albright Middle School in Villa Park. Krishnamoorthi represents Illinois’ 8th Congressional District in Washington, D.C. The 8th District includes most of Villa Park, including Albright Middle School, which is located at 1110 S. Villa Ave. The school has a total of about 230 students in grades 5-8. Krishnamoorthi made the visit to commemorate the $80,000 in federal funding he secured to offer additional after-school programming at Albright for the 2022-23 school year. The funding comes from the Community Funding Project program, which is a bipartisan congressional grant. Salt Creek School District 48 Superintendent Dr. Jake Chung applied for the $80,000 grant for Albright over one year ago. The grant for Albright is called “The Viking After School Special @ The AMS Hub.” The grant will help to create an after-school program for Albright students that will allow them to take part in a variety of activities once the typical school day has ended. Those activities include advanced book studies, a chess club, guitar lessons, math and literacy supports and a homework center. The school plans to use the grant to transform the school’s library/media center into an after-school community center for all Albright students to enjoy.
