Police Reports

The Elmhurst Police Department recently reported the following arrests and citations. Persons charged with domestic battery are not named in order to protect the privacy of victims. Readers are reminded that an arrest does not constitute a conviction, and that subjects are considered innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law. Juveniles age 17-or-younger are not named.

Battery

March 6

Police said officers responded to the 100 block of E. Park at 2:56 a.m. for a report of a battery. The complainant related a verbal argument escalated when an unknown suspect used an open palm to push the victim’s face. The complainant did not wish to sign complaints but wanted the matter documented.

March 5

A victim in the 100 block of N. Addison told police at 4:40 p.m. while hanging out on the top level of the Addison parking deck, she was confronted by the suspect about an incident involving a male friend. The suspect slapped the victim in the face. An investigation is pending.

Feb. 27

A victim in the 100 block of W. Diversey reported at 5:01 p.m. that several nights ago a worker had come into his room to check on him. The victim raised his fist to the worker and the worker hit the victim. The victim does not know who the employee is. The reporting officer did not observe any redness or swelling on the victim’s face.

March 5-March 6

A victim in the 100 block of Fairlane told police that an unknown suspect(s) keyed her vehicle while it was parked on the street at the above address.

March 4-March 5

A complainant in the 400 block of S. Cottage stated that an unknown person(s) removed a parkway tree, dragged it down the street and left it standing upright by a light pole.

Domestic battery, domestic incident, disorderly conduct, disturbance

March 5

The manager of an entertainment center in the 300 block of Lake told police at 4:42 p.m. of receiving a voicemail on the business line from an unknown suspect threatening to bomb and torch the building. Using information from caller ID the reporting officer was able to contact the juvenile suspect via telephone. The suspect admitted to placing the phone call and leaving the bomb threat as a joke and was not serious about bombing the building. This case is pending investigation.

March 3

A victim in the 700 block of Geneva told police at 6:03 p.m. that he and the next-door neighbor were arguing. The neighbor then threatened the victim and then spat upon the victim. The neighbor denied threatening or spitting upon the victim. Officers did not observe any evidence of spitting. Both parties were advised to refrain from contact with each other.

March 8

Marek T. Grysiewicz, 54, of Lincolnshire, was charged with DUI and improper lane usage near North and Shady at 7:50 p.m.

Christine A. Tabora, 47, of Lombard, was charged with DUI, unsafe tires and no insurance near North and York at 8:46 p.m.

Kevin I. Zarate, 27, of Elmhurst, was charged with DUI, no valid driver’s license and failure to yield turning left subsequent to a traffic crash near Grand and County Line at 6:50 p.m.

March 6

Mirsad Cerimovic, 50, of Chicago, was charged with DUI, possession of a concealed firearm while under the influence of alcohol, improper turn and improper lane usage subsequent to a traffic stop near North and I-294 at 4:43 a.m.

Mario Serrano-Narvaez, 56, of Addison, was charged with DUI, improper lane usage, driving on wrong side of road and no insurance subsequent to a traffic stop near Myrtle and Grantley at 2:46 a.m.

March 5

Praveenkumar Sharma, 40, of Schaumburg, was charged with DUI, improper lane usage and driving on the wrong side of the roadway subsequent to a traffic stop near W. Spangler and N. Industrial at 4:10 a.m.

Alexander Talavera, 24, of Chicago, was charged with DUI, use of unsafe tires and no insurance subsequent to a traffic stop near E. Lake and N. York at 4:06 a.m.

March 4

Stephanie Eustace, 36, of Wheaton, was charged with DUI, speeding, improper lane usage, failure to signal and following too closely subsequent to a traffic stop near Route 83 and Riverside at 1:34 a.m.

Gerson Vasquez-Pospov, 39, of Addison, was charged with DUI, no valid driver’s license, leaving the scene of an accident, failure to yield at stop intersection and no insurance subsequent to a report of a hit-and-run in the 900 block of N. York at 6:57 p.m.

Fleeing, eluding

According to information provided last week by the Elmhurst Police Department, police reported one incident of fleeing and eluding in which drivers of a vehicle reportedly fled after a traffic stop was conducted.

Possession of a controlled substance

March 6

Subsequent to a suspicious vehicle near Butterfield and York at 9 p.m., a suspect was found to be in possession of a controlled substance. The suspect was taken into custody and transported back to the police station. The suspect was released without charges, pending lab results.

Possession of cannabis by a driver

According to information provided last week by the Elmhurst Police Department, police reported no incidents of unlawful possession of cannabis by the driver of a vehicle:

Suspicious circumstances

March 8

A hotel employee in the 500 block of W. Grand observed a suspect described as a black male in his 40s or 50s parked suspiciously in the parking lot. The side sliding door was open and parked next to two parked vehicles. The suspect walked around the two parked vehicles, laid down on the ground between the vehicles and pounded on the cars with a hammer type object. When confronted by an employee, the suspect stated he was just working on the vehicle and then quickly got into his vehicle and left the area. An investigation is pending.

Theft or burglary/identity theft/fraud/forgery/deceptive practice/obstruction/robbery

March 8

Identity theft was reported in the 400 block of Alexander at 3:32 p.m. A victim related that an unknown suspect, posing as an employee of Nicor Gas, called him and offered to reduce the victim’s rates. The suspect asked for the victim’s Social Security number and the victim provided it.

March 7

Theft was reported in the 800 block of N. Wilson at 5:37 p.m. A victim reports while at school, an unknown suspect(s) removed her son’s cell phone from his unattended backpack. The principal later located the missing phone in another student’s locker. An investigation is pending.

March 5

Theft was reported in the 900 block of Cedar at 4:23 p.m. A victim told police that he left his cell phone and wallet in the back seat of a Lyft car. The victim contacted Lyft to report the loss. The Lyft driver checked his vehicle for

the items with no results. The victim’s phone has since lost power and the victim is unable to track its location.

Feb. 3-March 4

Theft of services was reported at a rental company in the 800 block of N. York. A complainant stated the suspect failed to return a rental vehicle after it was involved in a car accident. The complainant contacted the suspect, who has ceased all communication with the rental company. This case is pending investigation.

March 3

Residential burglary was reported in the 300 block of S. West at 6:41 p.m. A victim told police that he was away and returned to discover an unknown suspect had entered his apartment and stole two televisions and several items of clothing.

Fraud was reported in the 100 block of S. York at 8:25 p.m. Victims related that an unknown suspect called and posed as a Medicare employee. The suspect asked for the victim’s Medicare number and the victim complied. The

victim contacted Medicare to report the incident.

Nov. 25, 2021

Residential burglary was reported in the 500 block of W. Crockett. A victim reported jewelry and cash were taken from a wall safe. The victim stated he reviewed video surveillance which shows the suspect entering the residence without permission. This case is pending investigation.

Unemployment benefits identity theft

According to information provided last week by the Elmhurst Police Department, police reported one incident of identity theft with the intention of using a victim’s personal information to fraudulently apply for unemployment benefits through the Illinois Department of Employment Security.
