Police Reports

The Elmhurst Police Department recently reported the following arrests and citations. Persons charged with domestic battery are not named in order to protect the privacy of victims. Readers are reminded that an arrest does not constitute a conviction, and that subjects are considered innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law. Juveniles age 17-or-younger are not named.

Battery

March 3

An employee at Elmhurst Hospital reported at 10:01 a.m. that a suspect, who was being treated as a patient, became unruly and began fighting with hospital staff members and battered a security guard. The suspect was taken into custody and detained at the hospital. Charges are pending.

Criminal damage, criminal trespass

Feb. 25-Feb. 26

 A victim in the 100 block of N. Caroline told police that an unknown person(s) punctured the two passenger side tires of her Enterprise rental car that was parked in the apron of her driveway sometime between the above dates. The tires appeared to have one individual puncture on the top sidewall of each tire.

Feb. 25

Police said officers responded to a person sleeping in the homeowner’s crawl space in the 400 block of E. May at 7:47 p.m. The suspect has been told several times by the homeowner that she is not allowed in the house. The suspect was issued a trespass notice.

Domestic battery, domestic incident, disorderly conduct, disturbance

Feb. 28

A victim in the 200 block of E. Wrightwood related that subsequent to a verbal argument, the suspect punched her in the shoulder. The suspect related she swatted the victim’s hand. Due to conflicting statements and no signs of injury to either subject, no arrests were made.

Feb. 25

Police said that subsequent to a verbal argument, the suspect grabbed a kitchen knife from her vehicle. The suspect slashed the rear driver side tire on the victim’s vehicle, which was parked in the Elmhurst Hospital parking lot, and fled the scene. The area was check for suspect with no results. Charges are pending.

A 57-year-old Elmhurst woman was charged with domestic battery in the 300 block of W. Hillside at 8:24 p.m. A victim told police the suspect had been drinking and struck him in the face.

DUI, DUI-drugs, transportation of open alcohol, possession of open alcohol, consumption of alcohol by a minor

March 3

Marcus Head, 38, of Chicago, was charged with driving while license revoked, transportation of open alcohol and disobeying a traffic control signal subsequent to a traffic stop near Route 83 and Lake at 12:15 a.m.

Feb. 25

Justin Caterina, 38, of Prospect Heights, was charged with DUI, transportation of open alcohol and speeding subsequent to a traffic stop near St. Charles and Route 83 at 10:01 p.m.

Fleeing, eluding

According to information provided last week by the Elmhurst Police Department, police reported two incidents of fleeing and eluding in which drivers of a vehicle reportedly fled after a traffic stop was conducted.

Harassment, threats

Feb. 24

A victim in the 100 block of S. Route 83 told police at 2:45 p.m. that she received disturbing messages via Snap Chat from an unknown person. She threatened to contact the police, and the unknown person unfriended her.

Possession of cannabis by a driver

According to information provided last week by the Elmhurst Police Department, police reported two incidents of unlawful possession of cannabis by the driver of a vehicle: Valmir Maksuti, 26, of Schaumburg near Second and Addison at 10:25 a.m. Feb. 24; and Trevel Nicholson, 29, of Chicago, in the 500 block of W. North at 10:23 a.m.

Suspicious circumstances

Feb. 27

Police said officers responded to the 500 block of N. Howard at 10:30 p.m. for the report of a man with a gun. Officers made contact with the resident who stated he did not own any firearms. The resident further stated he was using a stick to stoke a fire in his fire pit which may have been viewed from a distance as a firearm.

Feb. 25

Police said that subsequent to a suspicious person in the 700 block of S. Hawthorne at 5:03 a.m., a suspect was found attempting to gain access to the victim’s home. The suspect could not remember what happened and

appeared to be suffering from exposure. The suspect was transported to Elmhurst Hospital for treatment.

March 2

Gonzalo Guerrero-Ortega, 29, of Midlothian, was charged with aggravated possession of a stolen vehicle, three counts of aggravated fleeing and eluding, unlawful possession of a controlled substance, improper passing and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident near Spring and Crescent at 1:34 p.m. Police said a reporting officer located a vehicle which was reported stolen out of Chicago. Officers conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle, which allegedly began to flee at a high rate of speed. The vehicle crashed and Guerrero-Ortega was taken into custody.

Fraud was reported in the 200 block of E. Grantley at 3:57 p.m. A victim reported that he mailed a check to his landscape service on Nov. 24, 2021. The victim was notified the check was never delivered. The victim checked with his bank and learned the check had been altered to a different payee and then fraudulently cashed.

March 1

Burglary to a vehicle was located at a recreation center in the 100 block of S. West at 11:26 a.m. A victim told police that an unknown suspect smashed the driver’s side window of her parked vehicle and removed her purse.

Dec. 7, 2021-March 1

Forgery was reported at a hotel in the 900 block of S. Riverside. Police said an agent for the victim’s business reports a former employee (suspect) had forged a company check making it payable to the suspect. An investigation is pending.

Feb. 28

Retail theft was reported at a shoe store in the 100 block of S. Route 83. A complainant related that an unknown suspect described as a black male around 35 years old picked up four boxes of gym shoes and exited the store without paying for the merchandise.

Feb. 27-Feb. 28

Burglary to a vehicle was reported in the 100 block of S. West. An unknown suspect(s) entered victim’s unlocked vehicle and stole the victim’s purse. The victim’s credit card was used in Villa Park at a McDonalds and Exxon gas station.

Feb. 15-Feb. 28

Theft was reported in the 100 block of Addison. A victim told police that his Ruger Red Label shotgun was shipped via FedEx sometime between the above dates but was never received.

Feb. 27

Identity theft was reported in the 100 block of E. Hale at 10:15 a.m. A victim states that an unknown suspect(s) used his information to open a bank account and made several transactions. The suspect(s) also attempted to withdraw funds from the victim’s saving account.

Feb. 25-Feb. 26

A vehicle was reported stolen in the 100 block of E. Knighton. A victim related upon returning from out of town, she learned her 2012 Hyundai Elantra was no longer parked in its parking space. The only set of keys was in her possession.

Feb. 24

Christine Lambert, 42, of Elgin, was charged with retail theft and obstructing identification at a store in the 600 block of N. York at 7:39 p.m. According to police, a complainant related that Lambert was seen putting over the counter medications into her cart and attempting to leave without paying. Police said Lambert had three warrants out of DuPage County.

Feb. 23

Theft was reported in the 100 block of S. Fairview at 12:01 p.m. A victim told police he lost his wallet and now has charges on his debit and credit cards.

Identity theft was reported in the 300 block of E. Vallette at 2:04 p.m. An unknown person(s) opened a Wells Fargo checking account in the victim’s name. The account was frozen and there was no activity on the account.

Feb. 20

Theft was reported at York High School at 2:19 p.m. A complainant related during a swim meet that her son left his black Apple watch in his unattended bag. Upon checking his bag, he was unable to locate his watch. The Apple watch was entered into LEADS.

Feb. 11

Identity theft was reported in the 100 block of S. Pick at 6:22 p.m. A victim told police that an unknown suspect used his personal information to open six cell phone accounts with AT&T. The victim contacted AT&T to report the fraud. The accounts were opened at a store in Chicago. An investigation is pending.

Jan. 18

Theft by deception was reported in the 100 block of E. Grand at 12:17 p.m. A victim related she sent Apple Gift cards to a “Fund Grant” who would send her $10,000 in return.
