Saturday, Mar. 5
• At 12 noon, the Elmhurst St. Patrick’s Day Parade returns to step off on Spring Road at Wilson Street. The 25th annual parade has been on hold for two years, thanks to COVID-19, but will return this year, as will the Elmhurst Armpit Orchestra, which will serve as Parade Grand Marshal.
• At 7:30 p.m., there will be a concert recital presented by professional musician and Elmhurst resident Uli Widmaier. The concert will be held at Congregation Etz Chaim, 1710 So. Highland Ave. in Lombard. It will also be available virtually via live stream. Free, but contributions appreciated to The People’s Music School. Masks required. At 12 noon, the Elmhurst History Museum is hosting a free Gallery Talk with the Curator of Exhibits, Dan Bartlett, will lead participants through highlights of the “People of the Prairie: 12,000 Years in DuPage County” exhibit.
Tuesday, Mar. 8
Beginning at 11:30 a.m., Molly Tran, who leads Elmhurst University’s undergraduate and graduate programs in public health, will present the free, hour-long webinar “More Than Epidemiology: The Many Facets of Public Health.” Tran will explore the wide array of challenges public health professionals address every day and discuss how Elmhurst’s public health program is preparing students to lead with innovation. • At 6:30 p.m., the Father McDonald Council #1911 of the Knights of Columbus will hold an event to celebrate the presentation of donations from its annual Tootsie Roll drive to various intellectual disability charities at the Knights of Columbus, 537 So. At 7 p.m., columnist and author George Will will deliver “The Political Argument Today,” this year’s Rudolf G. Schade Lecture on History, Ethics and Law in Hammerschmidt Chapel on the campus of Elmhurst University. At 7 p.m. at Elmhurst Christian Reformed Church, 149 W. Brush Hill Rd., the Elmhurst Symphony will perform Bach’s St. John Passion along with the Apollo Chorus of Chicago. Dr. Ted Hatmaker lecture at 5:45 p.m. The church has accessible parking. Masks and proof of vaccination required. Tickets are $35/adults, $32/seniors, $12/students (must be at least 12). At 4 p.m. Music at Bethel United Church of Christ presents “The Magic of Mendelssohn,” featuring Bethel’s artistic director and pianist Jeffrey Panko, flutist Jennie Brown, and cellist Paula Kosower, performing two beloved piano trios by Felix Mendelssohn. Bethel is located at 315 East St. Charles Rd. Tickets are $20 available by calling 630-279-4040, or at the door. Students are free.

The Chicago Accordion Club meets on the third Monday of every month from 6 to 9:30 p.m. at the Elmhurst American Legion, 310 W. Butterfield Rd. Visitors are welcome. Every meeting fee includes professional musical entertainment and pizza. Admission is $12 for members and $15 for non-members.

The Elmhurst History Museum presents Spring Break Activities for Families: Families are invited to participate in different programs including a free Meet an Archaeologist! drop-in day, an off-site workshop at St. James Farm called From Atlatl to Archery: Ancient Hunting Technologies ($5 per person), and a free Three Sisters Make-and-Take activity where participants will learn to grow corn, squash and bean plants together following native traditions.

‘People of the Prairie’ now open at EHM
The Elmhurst History Museum at 120 E. Park Ave. in downtown Elmhurst, will use an archaeological lens to gain a deeper understanding of the vibrant Native cultures and communities of the earliest inhabitants in their latest exhibit, People of the Prairie: 12,000 Years in DuPage County. Elmhurst Art Museum’s
new exhibition opens
Beginning Saturday, Feb. 5, the Elmhurst Art Museum hosts its newest exhibit “Houses of Tomorrow: Solar Homes from Keck to Today.” It will remain through May 29. Sponsored by DuPage Foundation, Graham Foundation, Artis Grant Program and Room & Board home furnishings.
