County, State partner on rental assistance program

On Monday, Dec. 6, DuPage County and the Illinois Housing Development Authority (IHDA) relaunched an emergency rental assistance program for residents who are behind on their rent due to COVID-19.

Eligible DuPage County households may qualify for up to $25,000 in emergency rental assistance for payments from June 2020 through April 2022. Applications will be available at illinoishousinghelp.org.

Eligibility requirements for the rental assistance program include:

•   Household must have experienced a financial hardship directly or indirectly due to the pandemic.

•   Household is behind on rent and/or is at risk of experiencing homelessness or housing instability.

•   2020 household income was below 80 percent of the Area Median Income, adjusted for household size.

“After launching this program in May, we saw a tremendous response to the program and numerous DuPage County residents who needed financial help. We want to provide as much support for our residents as possible, so we are pleased to be able to relaunch this housing assistance program,” said County Board Chairman Dan Cronin.
