The Villa Park Environmental Concerns Commission held its annual Pumpkin Smash on Saturday, Nov. 6. Residents brought their Halloween pumpkins to a receptacle located in a parking lot near Villa Park Village Hall. The hundreds of pumpkins that were placed into the receptacle will be composted. Composting pumpkins diverts additional waste from landfills and reduces greenhouse gas emissions. The commission held the Pumpkin Smash event in coordination with SCARCE (School and Community Assistance for Recycling and Composting Education). The photo shows members of the Villa Park Environmental Concerns Commission, along with a few others who provided assistance at the event.
