Burglary suspect vehicles flee before arrest can be made
On Friday, Sept. 10, attempted burglary was reported in the 100 block of E. Fullerton at 2:03 a.m. While on patrol, officers observed three vehicles which were reported to have been involved in commercial burglaries in other towns. Officers attempted a traffic stop on the offending vehicles but they fled at a high rate of speed and were last seen traveling eastbound on Grand Avenue. Officers checked the local businesses and heard an audible alarm from the above location. A glass door to the main entrance was damaged but no entry was gained. The reporting officer reviewed security footage and observed three vehicles back into the parking lot and four suspects exit two of the vehicles. One suspect struck the glass door with an unknown object and then fled the scene.
Woman leaves handgun in Elmhurst Clinic bathroom
On Monday, Sept. 13, Joanne A. Fargas, 45, of Bellwood, was charged with violation of the Concealed Carry Act/Prohibited Location in the 100 block of Schiller at 10:59 a.m. Police said a black 9mm Smith & Wesson handgun was located in a bathroom at the Elmhurst Clinic, According to police, Fargas was located, related that she forgot her firearm in the bathroom, and said she did not see the “No Firearms” sign on the door.
Suspect who allegedly had bat, pistol leaves the state
On Friday, Sept. 10, a victim in the 100 block of E. Lake related that her boyfriend’s wife sent her an email stating “see you soon.” The victim’s boyfriend advised he observed the suspect place a bat in her car, she would not say where she was going, and that she often carries a .357 pistol in her purse. Due to the threat and the suspect’s actions, an ISPERN was broadcast. Contact was made with the suspect who stated she was heading to Indianapolis to visit friends. The suspect was advised to have no contact with the victim.
Alert witness reports possible vehicle burglary
On Tuesday, Sept. 14, burglary to a vehicle was reported in the 100 block of E. First at 1:41 a.m. A witness told police that she observed the alleged suspect, described as a white male, standing next to the victim’s vehicle while holding a flashlight. The suspect then rode his bicycle northbound on Commerce Parkway, the witness told police, and pulled into a restaurant parking lot. The witness returned to the first location and observed that the driver’s window was smashed and that cash was allegedly missing.
