Local area man gets COVID booster on 100th birthday

 

Third time’s the charm

Mellon, a Villa Park resident, was there to receive a third dose of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine which is given to certain individuals whose immune systems are compromised.

A Villa Park man got a booster shot and a birthday party at the Edward-Elmhurst Health (EEH) Center in Downers Grove on Wednesday, Aug. 25.

John Mellon, 99 years old, received a third dose of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine to help increase his immunity against COVID-19, following his first two shots in February 2021.

Before receiving the third dose, the EEH COVID vaccination team presented Mellon with a card and cake, and sang “Happy Birthday” in celebration of his 100th birthday which is Sunday, Aug. 29.

EEH is administering third doses of the Pfizer and Moderna COVID-19 vaccines at the Downers Grove location to certain individuals who are moderately to severely immunocompromised. First and second doses of the Pfizer vaccine are available for ages 12 and older, and second doses of the Moderna vaccine are available for ages 18 and older at EEH’s Downers Grove location. 

The single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine is available via walk-in visit to those who are 18 and older at the Edward-Elmhurst Health Center and Immediate Care – Lombard, 130 S. Main St. For more information, visit eehealth.org/coronavirus/vaccine/scheduling.
