The Elmhurst Police Department recently reported the following arrests and citations. Persons charged with domestic battery are not named in order to protect the privacy of victims. Readers are reminded that an arrest does not constitute a conviction, and that subjects are considered innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law. Juveniles age 17-or-younger are not named.
Criminal damage
July 9
Police said a reporting officer met with a complainant who reported an unknown suspect(s) damaged the keyhole to the front driver side door of her vehicle in the 300 block of Commonwealth at 4:08 p.m.
July 8
Police said a reporting officer met with the complainant near Comstock and Garden at 9:02 p.m., who reported an unknown suspect caused damage to a pole while attempting to remove a street sign. The complainant described the suspect as a white male, approximately 18-20 years of age with blonde hair. The unknown suspect left the area in a gray pick-up truck and was last seen heading northbound on Garden Avenue.

July 11
A victim in the 400 block of Oaklawn told police at 7:02 p.m. that a suspect described as a white male, around 40 years old, 6-foot-2 with a muscular build, approached him and threatened him to stay away from his son. The victim’s mother will contact the officer if she is able to identify the suspect.
July 8
A 34-year-old Elmhurst man was charged with two counts of domestic battery in the 500 block of W. Grand at 3:22 p.m. A victim reported the suspect grabbed her arm and shoved her into a door causing her to fall.
DUI, DUI-drugs, illegal transportation of alcohol, illegal possession of alcohol
July 12
Yesenia E. Figueroa, 28, of Des Plaines, was charged with DUI, driving while license suspended, improper lane usage, illegal transportation of alcohol and no insurance subsequent to a traffic stop near Grand and County Line at 10:52 p.m.
Eric A. Pascual Funes, 19, of Elmhurst, was charged with DUI, no valid driver’s license, consumption of alcohol by a minor, possession of open alcohol in a vehicle and no insurance subsequent to a traffic stop near West and North at 9:35 p.m.
July 9
Jose Quiroga, 45, of Schiller Park, was charged with DUI-drugs, unlawful possession of a controlled substance, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and no insurance subsequent to a vehicle crash near North and Melrose at 3:36 p.m.
July 8
Police said that subsequent to a report of a suspicious vehicle in the 500 block of S. Kearsage at 4:15 p.m., a suspect was found to be driving under the influence of alcohol. The suspect was heavily intoxicated and was transported by medics to Elmhurst Hospital. The reporting officer met with the suspect who admitted to consuming alcohol. Charges are pending discharge from Elmhurst Hospital.
Fleeing, eluding
According to information provided last week by the Elmhurst Police Department, police reported one incident of fleeing and eluding in which drivers of a vehicle or a motorcycle reportedly fled after a traffic stop was conducted.
Harassment, threats
July 13
A victim in the 100 block of Addison told police at 5:10 p.m. that after she told the suspect to no longer contact her, the suspect called her places of employment and went to her residence in an attempt to make contact with her. The reporting officer spoke with the suspect and told him to cease all contact with the victim. The suspect agreed to cease all contact.

July 13
Fabian Lopez, 41, of DeKalb, was issued a citation for possession of cannabis in a vehicle subsequent to a traffic stop near Lake and Walnut at 4:54 p.m.
July 12
Tyrell L. Easter, 31, of Chicago, was charged with driving while license suspended, unlawful possession of cannabis by a driver, no registration plates on a vehicle, improper window tinting and no insurance subsequent to a traffic stop near Villa and North at 12:03 a.m.
July 11
Police said that subsequent to a traffic stop near Route 83 and Butterfield at 9:08 p.m., Kevin B. Jamison, 27, of Bloomingdale (the driver,) was found to be in possession of cannabis while Lanelle L. Lewis, 27, of Bellwood (the passenger), was found to be in possession of open alcohol. Jamison was issued citations for possession of cannabis by a driver and tinted windows. Lewis was cited for possession of open alcohol in a vehicle.
July 10
Juan C. Bautista, 41, of Chicago, was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance, DUI, improper lane usage and improper lighting subsequent to a traffic stop near Grand and Industrial at 1:04 a.m.
Police said that subsequent to a traffic stop in the 100 block of W. Diversey at 4:52 a.m., the driver—Joseph E. Griffin, 50, of Harvey—and the passenger—James Robinson, 59, of Calumet Park—were found to be in possession of heroin and were placed under arrest. During a search of the
vehicle, a large quantity of Hilti brand power tools were located, according to police. A check of the Hilti business revealed two parked work vehicles which had broken windows and power tools stolen from them, police said. Both suspects were charged with possession of a controlled substance, burglary, attempted theft of stolen goods exceeding $10,000, and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. Griffin was also charged with driving while license revoked, failure to signal, improper passing on shoulder, and improper window tinting.
Sara M. Jackson, 32, of Brookfield, was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance, DUI-drugs and no insurance subsequent to a traffic stop in the 200 block of E. Butterfield at 12:49 p.m. Police said Jackson also was found to have a warrant from the DuPage County Sheriff’s office.
Bryan A. Madigal, 21, of Lexington, Ky., was issued citations for improper use of registration, illegal transportation of alcoholic liquor and unlawful possession of cannabis by a driver while Jose De Jesus Ruiz-Esparza Mireles was cited for unlawful possession of cannabis by a passenger subsequent to a traffic stop near Lake and Route 83 at 12:58 a.m.
Monique S. Straight, 22, of Chicago, was cited for possession of cannabis in a vehicle by a passenger in the 100 block of S. West at 3:52 a.m.
July 9
Kylee C. Newman, 23, of Carol Stream, was issued citations for possession of cannabis in a vehicle and expired registration subsequent to a traffic stop near Michigan and North at 10:36 p.m.
Anibal J. Sanchez, 25, of Franklin Park, was issued citations for unlawful possession of cannabis by a driver and driving too fast for conditions subsequent to a single vehicle crash near Grand and County Line at 7:08 a.m.
Timmith Washington, 24, of Yorkville, was issued citations for possession of cannabis by a driver and no insurance subsequent to a traffic stop near York and Crestview at 11:28 a.m.
July 8
Jack McLaren, 23, of Brookfield, was issued citations for possession of cannabis in a vehicle and speeding subsequent to a traffic stop near Roosevelt and Route 83 at 10:10 p.m.
Suspicious circumstances
July 10
A complainant in the 300 block of Cottage Hill told police at 4:11 p.m. that he and another witness observed a suspect inside of a neighbor’s open garage. The suspect left the area on foot southbound onto the Illinois
Prairie Path.
July 9
Police said officers responded with medics to the 500 block of W. North at 3:30 p.m. for a report of an accidental discharge of a firearm. The reporting officer met with the victim who stated his firearm discharged in its holster while he was adjusting his pants. The victim sustained a graze wound to his right leg and was transported by medics to Elmhurst Hospital for treatment.
July 8
Police said officers responded to the 600 block of N. York at 8:50 a.m. for the report of a suspicious person. The reporting officer met with the complainant who reported seeing an unknown suspect attempt to open her husband’s work van. The unknown suspect left the area in a dark-colored SUV. The unknown suspect is described as a black male wearing black saggy pants, and possibly missing teeth. This case pending is investigation.

July 13-July 14
Burglary to a vehicle was reported in the 500 block of W. Grand. A victim told police that an unknown suspect entered his unlocked vehicle and stole his mother’s Illinois ID card and her Social Security card sometime between the above dates.
July 13
Theft of vehicle parts was reported in the 100 block of E. Lake at 4:41 a.m. A complainant told police he heard a power saw outside and observed the suspect under the victim’s vehicle. The suspect entered the passenger side of an unknown dark-colored sedan and left the scene in an unknown direction. Officers responded to the area and learned the catalytic converter had been removed from the victim’s vehicle.

Theft was reported in the 300 block of E. Church. A victim told police that his flagpole and an Italian flag were stolen from the front of his house sometime between the above dates.
July 11-July 12
Theft of vehicle parts was reported in the 100 block of Michigan. A victim told police that an unknown suspect(s) stole the catalytic converter from her minivan while it was parked in a parking lot sometime between the above dates.

A business in the 100 block of Addison told police at 7:16 a.m. that a 3×5-foot flag that was pinned to the outside wall of the business was stolen.
July 8-July 9
Theft of vehicle parts was reported in the 100 block of W. Butterfield. A victim told police that an unknown suspect(s) removed the catalytic converter from his vehicle while it was parked in the parking lot overnight.
July 8
Theft was reported in the 600 block of Michigan at 8:36 a.m. Police said a reporting officer met with the complainant who reported an unknown suspect stole a backpack leaf blower from an unsecured landscaping trailer. This case is pending investigation.
Dec. 1, 2020
Identity theft was reported in the 500 block of Fairview. A victim told police that an unknown suspect(s) used his personal information to open three (fraudulent DirecTV accounts.
Unemployment benefits identity theft
According to information provided last week by the Elmhurst Police Department, police reported one incident of identity theft with the intention of using a victim’s personal information to fraudulently apply for unemployment benefits through the Illinois Department of Employment Security.
Warrant arrest
July 12
Police said that subsequent to a suspicious person at a gas station in the 400 block of N. York at 5 a.m., Gustavo Funes, 60, of Bensenville, was found to have a valid warrant from the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office.
