The July 13 meeting of the Elmhurst District 205 School Board featured a presentation from Todd Schmidt—the district’s director of buildings and grounds—with an update about construction projects. Schmidt’s presentation provided the estimated completion dates of several projects.

He said the project to build a 21,000 square foot addition at Elementary School has a completion date of Aug. 9. Schmidt said the demolition work at Lincoln Elementary School would soon be completed. He added the foundations for the new Lincoln school would be laid by this fall.

Schmidt said the renovation of the district’s new transition center—formerly the Elmhurst Park District’s Abbey—should be completed in mid-September. Schmidt said a portion of St. Charles Road will have to be torn up to access a water main on the south side of the road. The building is on the north side of St. Charles, near York High School.

At Emerson School, Schmidt said that the renovation project is scheduled to be completed by Aug. 10. He added that the project to replace the track in York’s stadium should be completed by Aug. 16. The upgrades to the pool at York should be completed in early August. Those upgrades, Schmidt said, will include work to bring more fresh air into the pool deck and the bleachers.

Underground storm water project at York delayed

Schmidt said that the City of Elmhurst’s project to construct an underground storm water detention area in front of York High School has been delayed and will run into the 2021-22 school year. He said the city had to cancel a contract related to the project. The school district’s project to construct a synthetic turf athletic field above the detention area cannot begin until the city’s project begins. Schmidt said the district will work with the City to develop a schedule that won’t disrupt the flow of traffic in the area when school is in session.
