The Elmhurst Police Department recently reported the following arrests and citations. Persons charged with domestic battery are not named in order to protect the privacy of victims. Readers are reminded that an arrest does not constitute a conviction, and that subjects are considered innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law. Juveniles age 17-or-younger are not named.

May 10
Halyna Hrushetsky, 79, of Elmhurst, was issued a citation for battery in the 400 block of N. York at around 1:17 p.m. Police said a victim related he and Hrushetsky were involved in a verbal argument and the suspect became physical towards the victim.

A reporting officer met with the complainant at a church in the 400 block of N. West at around 7 a.m. who reported an unknown suspect(s) damaged several pieces of playground equipment sometime between the above dates. This case is pending investigation.

May 11
A victim in the 700 block of N. Michigan told police at around 11:13 a.m. that the suspect became upset and struck the victim. The suspect fled the scene prior to police arrival. Efforts to locate the suspect were unsuccessful. An investigation is pending.

A 55-year-old Elmhurst man was charged with domestic battery in the 300 block of S. Argyle at around 7:02 p.m. Police said that subsequent to a verbal argument, the suspect struck the victim.

Samuel Juarez Rodriguez, 22, of Chicago, was charged with DUI, no valid driver’s license, no insurance, transportation of open alcohol and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident subsequent to a traffic crash near North and York at 4:59 a.m.
Matthew R. Mills, 28, of Bensenville, was charged with DUI, speeding, improper lane usage, failure to signal and failure to yield to emergency vehicle subsequent to a traffic stop near Route 83 and North at around 2:09 a.m.

Police said that subsequent to a vehicle accident in the 500 block of S. Spring at around 8:58 p.m., an unnamed female suspect was charged with DUI, improper lane usage, no insurance, transportation of open alcohol and consumption of alcohol by a minor. She was released on bond to her mother.

Aldo Morales, 18, of Round Lake Beach, was charged with DUI, unlawful possession of cannabis in a vehicle, no valid driver’s license, unlawful transportation of open alcohol, driving with only one headlight, improper lane usage, no insurance and consumption of alcohol by a minor subsequent to a traffic stop near Route 83 and St. Charles at around 2:57 a.m.

John Bishop, 51, of Hanover Park, was charged with possession of a controlled substances (Methamphetamine) subsequent to a traffic stop near North and Villa at around 6:51 p.m. Police said Bishop also was found to have a warrant out of the Lombard Police Department.
Christopher Figueroa, 21, of Northlake, was issued citations for speeding and unlawful possession of cannabis by a driver subsequent to a traffic stop near North and York at around 8:05 a.m.
Police said a reporting officer located a vehicle near Hampshire and Webster at around 6:10 a.m. that was reported stolen out of Stone Park. Officers made contact with the driver who was placed under arrest without incident. A search of the vehicle yielded a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia. Charges are pending.

Giovani Sanchez, 22, of Chicago, a passenger in a vehicle, was issued a citation for possession of cannabis in a vehicle subsequent to a traffic stop near North and Clinton at around 7:33 p.m.

May 12
Attempted residential burglary was reported in the 700 block of S. Euclid at around 12:15 p.m. Police said a reporting officer met with the complainant who stated an unknown suspect described as an Hispanic male approached her home requesting to check her electrical outlets. The complainant walked the unknown suspect through the home while he inspected multiple outlets. The unknown suspect eventually left the residence and nothing appeared to be missing.
May 4-May 11
A victim in the 300 block of Ridgeland told police at around 5:03 p.m. that she received an email from an unknown suspect indicating an order was being processed for the purchase of a computer. She called the provided phone number, advised the suspect she did not place the order, and provided her bank account information to be reimbursed. The unknown suspect stated he refunded too much and asked the victim to ship and wire transfer funds to him.
May 9
Retail theft was reported at a store in the 600 block of N. York at around 9:46 p.m. A complainant told police that the suspect concealed three bottles of bourbon in his waistband, walked past the last point of sale, and was stopped by security just prior to exiting the store. The liquor was recovered by security and the suspect—described as a black male around 25 years old—fled the scene in a black, four-door vehicle.

Theft from a vehicle was reported in the 200 block of S. Poplar. A victim told police that an unknown suspect(s) removed the catalytic converter from his vehicle while it was parked in the driveway overnight.
May 6
Fraud was reported in the 100 block of E. North at around 8:05 a.m. A victim reported he was contacted by an unknown suspect who was willing to provide the victim with a loan. The victim gave his banking information and Social Security number to the suspect. The victim is not out any money and reported the incident to his bank.
May 5
A reporting officer met with the complainant at a store in the 200 block of S. Route 83 who reported missing a laptop belonging to her employer. The complainant stated she last had the laptop while shopping at the above location. The reporting officer reviewed security footage which showed the complainant was in possession of the laptop as she exited the store.
Identity theft was reported in the 700 block of S. Washington. A victim stated an unknown suspect attempted to use his personal information to purchase a vehicle and rent a property in Georgia. The victim has not lost any money and has placed a freeze on his credit.
April 28
Theft by deception was reported in the 100 block of E. Van Buren at around 5:30 p.m. Police said the victim posted a painting for sale on eBay. The suspect sent a check to the victim and advised the victim the overage was to be paid to the movers for transporting the painting. The victim sent funds to Cash App for the transportation fees. The victim later learned the check had not cleared.
April 1-April 2
A vehicle was reported stolen from an auto dealership in the 300 block of W. Grand. A reporting officer met with the complainant who reported a 2021 GMC Acadia was missing from their inventory sometime between the above dates. The complainant believes a former employee took the vehicle when he quit his job at the dealership. The victim further stated employees observed the vehicle parked in the suspect’s driveway. This case is pending investigation.
