The Elmhurst Police Department recently reported the following arrests and citations. Persons charged with domestic battery are not named in order to protect the privacy of victims. Readers are reminded that an arrest does not constitute a conviction, and that subjects are considered innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law. Juveniles age 17-or-younger are not named.
Battery
March 2
Makayla Vaughn, 20, of Darien, was charged with three counts of aggravated battery, two counts of unlawful possession of a controlled substance, two counts of theft, obstructing identification, criminal trespass to a vehicle and driving while license suspended near N. Emory and E. North at around 12:21 p.m. Police said that subsequent to a suspicious auto, the reporting officer located a vehicle that was found to have been stolen out of Bartlett. Vaughn was later located after police said she committed two cellphone thefts. Upon further investigation, Vaughn was found to have a warrant out of the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office and a warrant out of
the Will County Sheriff’s Office, according to police. Vaughn was placed under arrest and transported to the police station where she allegedly battered three officers. A search of Vaughn yielded controlled substances, according to police.
Feb. 28
Gail C. Brasie, 36, of Elmhurst, was charged with battery in the 500 block of Swain at around 7:11 p.m. Police said officers responded to a report of an unknown intoxicated suspect standing on the complainant’s front steps. Upon arrival, police said Brasie was uncooperative and became irate when officers advised that her husband was on his way to the scene. Brasie allegedly threw her purse at an officer, which struck him in the leg, and allegedly threw a set of keys, which nearly struck the officer in the head.
Criminal trespassing
Feb. 28
Antonio E. Collins, 25, of Calumet City, was charged with criminal trespass to a vehicle and unlawful possession of cannabis by the driver near North and Route 83 at around 10:23 p.m. Police said that while an officer was on patrol, the officer observed a vehicle which had been reported stolen out of Chicago. A traffic stop was conducted. Police said Collins was taken into custody and transported to the police station.
DUI, DUI-drugs, illegal transportation of alcohol
March 3
Daniel Brotschul, 47, of Chicago, was charged with DUI, improper lane usage, speeding and improper lighting subsequent to a traffic stop near E. St. Charles and S. Fair at around 12:26 a.m.
March 2
Ethan Berrera, 24, of Plainfield, was charged with DUI-drugs, unlawful possession of cannabis by the driver and driving while license revoked in the 600 block of N. York at around 8:24 p.m.
Shannant Hamilton, 27, of Wheaton, was charged with illegal transportation of open alcohol, no valid driver’s license, speeding and no insurance subsequent to a traffic stop near S. Villa and W. Roosevelt at around 9:07 p.m.

Geovanni R. Rivera, 29, of Northlake, was charged with DUI, improper lane usage, improper lighting and no insurance subsequent to a traffic stop near Grand and Wilson at around 2:26 a.m.

Rafael I. Martinez Martin, 39, of Chicago, was charged with aggravated DUI, DUI, aggravated driving while license revoked, illegal transportation of open alcohol, improper lighting subsequent to a traffic stop in the 100 block of N. York at around 1:52 a.m.

Devonte J. Knight, 19, of Chicago, was charged with DUI-drugs, unlawful possession of cannabis by the driver, speeding, improper lane usage, improper lighting and failure to signal subsequent to a traffic stop near Butterfield and Commonwealth at around 8:38 p.m.

Roy L. Thompson, 49, of Black River Falls, Wis., was charged with DUI, driving while license suspended, stopping in the roadway and no insurance, while Andre E. Carothers, 46, of Chicago, a passenger in the vehicle, was issued a citation for possession of cannabis by a passenger subsequent to a vehicle stopped in the roadway near Church and Lake at around 12:24 a.m.
Fleeing, eluding
March 3
Police said a reporting officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle that was reported stolen out of the City of Chicago. The offending vehicle reportedly fled from officers at a high rate of speed, last seen heading northbound on Route 83.
Feb. 28
Police said an officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop for speeding near Route 83 and Elizabeth at around 5:22 a.m., but the suspect refused to stop and fled at a high rate of speed. An ISPERN message was broadcast.
Harassment, threats
March 2
Police said a complainant in the 300 block of W. Commonwealth reported his neighbor walked by and made an inappropriate comment towards him. The suspect stated he was upset and feels like he is being harassed by the complainant.
Possession of cannabis, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a controlled substance
Feb. 27
Asia M. Byrd, 18, of Villa Park, was issued citations for unlawful possession of cannabis under the age of 21 and possession of drug paraphernalia under the age of 21, while Taja P. Garcia, 18, of Glendale Heights, was issued citations for possession of cannabis under the age of 21 and no seat belt subsequent to a traffic stop near North and Route 83 at around 12:43 a.m.
Dakari R. Davis, 20, of Chicago, was charged with possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of cannabis by the driver, no valid driver’s license, operating a vehicle while using a cell phone and speeding, while Marcel D. Cooper, 21, of Chicago, a passenger in the vehicle, was cited for possession of cannabis subsequent to a traffic stop near North and Route 83 at around 9:59 p.m. Police said Davis was in possession of eight pills of Xanax and approximately 29 grams of cannabis.
Sebastian Lara, 20, of Mundelein, was issued a citation for unlawful possession of cannabis by a person under the age of 21 at Elmhurst University at around 9:08 p.m.
Deshanna R. Neal, 22, of Chicago, was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance, driving while license suspended and disobeying a traffic control device subsequent to a traffic stop near York and North at around 7:52 a.m. Police said a search of the vehicle yielded a
white pill which tested positive for MDMA.

Victor Cortes, 43, of Chicago, was charged with unlawful possession of cannabis by the driver, no valid driver’s license and disobeying a traffic control device subsequent to a traffic stop near S. York and W. Meister at around 1:16 p.m.
Feb. 23
Identity theft was reported in the 900 block of Linden at around 3:26 p.m. A victim told police that an unknown suspect(s) made three unauthorized withdrawals from her bank account.
Theft or burglary/identity theft/fraud/forgery/deceptive practice/obstruction/robbery
March 3-March 4
Commercial burglary was reported at a business in the 800 block of S. Riverside. Police said a reporting officer met with the complainant who reported an unknown suspect(s) entered multiple secured storage containers and vehicles and removed various tools and supplies. This case is pending investigation.
Feb. 26
Deonta Payne, 27, of Chicago, was charged with burglary, battery, retail theft and resisting a police officer at a store in the 600 block of N. York at around 7:46 p.m. Police said a complainant related two suspects entered the store, concealed several bottles of alcohol, and exited the store without paying for the merchandise. The complainant lost sight of the female suspect, but after a foot pursuit, officers apprehended Payne, according to police.
Roman Vidales, 21, of Bellwood, was issued a citation for theft at a car dealership in the 300 block of W. Grand at around 8:32 a.m. A complainant told police that Vidales quit his job with the dealership, and as he left the property, he allegedly took a power washer. Police said officers spoke with Vidales, who admitted taking the power washer and then relinquished it.

Theft by deception was reported in the 400 block of S. Parkside at around 4 p.m. A victim told police he wire-transferred cash to an unknown suspect purporting to be with Norton Security. The victim contacted his bank but was unable to cancel the
transaction.
Feb. 24
Theft by deception was reported in the 800 block of S. Spring at around 11:37 a.m. A victim told police that he received a phone call from an unknown suspect purporting to be with Norton Security. The victim allowed the unknown suspect remote access to his computer. The unknown suspect then requested the victim purchase gift cards. The victim purchased the gift cards and provided the unknown suspect with the card
numbers.
Unemployment benefits identity theft
According to information provided last week by the Elmhurst Police Department, police reported 27 incidents of identity theft with the intention of using a victim’s personal information to fraudulently apply for unemployment benefits through the Illinois Department of Employment Security.
Unlawful use of a weapon
Feb. 27
Jesse M. Greene, 22, of Chicago, was charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and speeding near Poplar and Huntington at around 12:54 a.m. Police said that subsequent to a traffic stop, Greene was found to be in possession of a pistol and did not possess a concealed carry license.
Warrant arrest
March 2
Police said that subsequent to a citizen assist in the 100 block of E. First at around 5:11 p.m., Heather Gillespie, 34, of Chicago, was found to have an active warrant out of the Lombard Police Department.
March 1
Police said Shannon M. Dunlavy, 27, of Elmhurst, had a valid warrant from the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office at around 3:35 p.m.

Police said that subsequent to a traffic stop near Poplar and St. Charles at around 4:42 p.m., Demichael D. Richardson, 25, of Bellwood—a passenger in a vehicle—was found to have an active warrant from the Bellwood Police Department and also was in possession of cannabis (for which he received a citation).
