Police Reports

The Elmhurst Police Department recently reported the following arrests and citations. Persons charged with domestic battery are not named in order to protect the privacy of victims. Readers are reminded that an arrest does not constitute a conviction, and that subjects are considered innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law. Juveniles age 17-or-younger are not named.

Assault

Feb. 13

Police said suspect threw a snowball, striking an officer’s fully marked police vehicle near York and Cayuga at around 10:07 p.m. The suspect was issued a citation for assault.

Criminal damage, criminal defacement

Feb. 16

A complainant in the 500 block of W.  Crockett told police at around 10:01 a.m. that he discovered several scratches to the passenger side of his vehicle. The complainant had no suspect information, but agreed to sign complaints if the suspect is located.

Feb. 12

A victim in the 900 block of N. York told police at around 9:38 p.m. that after a delivery, he parked his vehicle in a businesses’ parking lot. Upon returning to his vehicle, he observed his vehicle’s front and rear windshields were smashed. Video surveillance showed a silver Toyota pull in front of the victim’s vehicle. The cost to repair the damage is approximately $750. An investigation is pending.

Disorderly conduct, disturbance, domestic battery

Feb. 14

A 23-year-old Elmhurst man was charged with two counts of domestic battery in the 500 block of W. Crockett at around 2:02 p.m. Police said a reporting officer met with the victim who stated the suspect struck her in the head with an unknown object. Both the victim and the suspect sustained injuries during the altercation.

Feb. 13

Three Elmhurst men—ages 28, 26 and 19, respectively—were each charged with two counts of domestic battery and unlawful interference with reporting domestic violence in the 200 block of W. North at around 1:47 p.m. Upon arrival, officers observed contusions and swelling to the victim’s face. The victim told police that after drinking with the suspects, they beat him up and took his cell phone so he could not call 9-1-1 to report the incident.

A victim in the 500 block of N. West told police at around 4:20 p.m. that during a verbal argument, she attempted to exit her vehicle and the suspect closed her car door against her foot. The suspect told police nothing physical happened. Due to no visible injuries and conflicting accounts of the incident, no arrests were made.

DUI, DUI-drugs, illegal transportation of alcohol

Feb. 17

Juan Poe, 43, of Chicago, was charged with DUI, unlawful possession of cannabis by the driver, improper lane usage and failure to signal when changing lanes subsequent to a traffic stop near W. North and N. Highland at around 2:46 a.m.

Feb. 15

Lisett Hernandez, 21, of Cicero, was charged with DUI, no valid driver’s license, speeding and no insurance subsequent to a traffic stop near S. Kenmore and E. St. Charles at around 8:19 p.m.

Colleen Lively, 51, of Franklin Part, was charged with DUI-drugs and no insurance in the 100 block of W. North at around 11:31 p.m. Police said that subsequent to a report of a subject slumped behind the wheel, Lively was found to be driving under the influence of drugs.

Feb. 14

Police said officers responded to a residence in the 300 block of Alexander at around 12:46 a.m. for the report of an underage drinking party. Justin Hall, 20, of Wheeling; Jasmina A. Malek, 20, of Mundelein; Michelle Sandoval, 19, of Chicago; and Kaitlyn Servin, 20, of Hawthorne Woods, were issued citations for consumption of alcohol by a minor.

Danilza M. Lopez Sosa, 32, of Addison, was charged with DUI and disobeying a traffic control device subsequent to a traffic stop near N. Route 83 and W. North at around 4:13 a.m.

Feb. 13

Kyle B. Bruzzini, 28, of Melrose Park, was charged with DUI and unlawful possession of cannabis by a driver subsequent to a suspicious vehicle investigation near Armitage and Myrtle at around 2:32 a.m.

Feb. 11

Nicolas D. Diaz, 26, of Elmhurst, was charged with DUI, speeding, improper lane usage, disobeying a traffic control device and failure to signal subsequent to a traffic stop near York and Diversey at around 11:37 p.m.

Harassment, threats

Feb. 13-Feb. 17

A complainant in the 100 block of Haven told police that the suspect has continued to contact her after being told to stop. The suspect also threatened to contact the complainant’s place of employment and family. The reporting officer attempted to contact the suspect but was unsuccessful. This case is pending investigation.

Feb. 16

A complainant in the 300 block of W. Avery told police at around 8:21 p.m. that they received a threatening voice message from the suspect. The reporting officer spoke with the suspect who stated he made the comments out of frustration and did not intend to harm the complainant. The complainant did not wish to sign complaints, but wanted the matter documented.

Feb. 15

A reporting officer met with a complainant at Elmhurst Hospital at around 11:05 p.m. who stated a patient threatened to harm hospital staff. The reporting officer spoke with the suspect and served him with a no-trespass notice.

Feb. 13-Feb. 14

A victim in the 700 block of S. Parkside told police at around 1:35 p.m. that she received an explicit message via Snapchat from an unknown suspect sometime between the above dates.

Obstruction

Feb. 14

Elbert Scuefield Jr., 27, of Chicago, was charged with obstructing a police officer, possession of alcohol in public, unlawful possession of cannabis by a driver and driving while license suspended subsequent to a suspicious vehicle investigation in the 300 block of W. Butterfield at around 3:15 a.m. Police said Scuefield provided a false name to the officer.

Possession of cannabis, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a controlled substance

Feb. 17

Nubia Juarez, 29, of Chicago, was issued citations for possession of cannabis by the driver and speeding, while Elora Kozil, 25, of Brookfield, was issued a citation for possession of cannabis by a passenger subsequent to a traffic stop near St. Charles and York at around 8:09 p.m.

Feb. 16

Roberto Duran-Diaz, 38, of Chicago, was issued citations for possession of cannabis by the driver and improper display of registration, while Jesus Estrada, 30, of Chicago, was issued a citation for possession of cannabis by a passenger subsequent to a traffic stop near Lake and N. York at around 11:47 p.m.

Feb. 15

Hannah Ahn, 22, of Lombard, was charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of cannabis by the driver, driving while license suspended and no insurance near Roosevelt and S. York at around 11:29 p.m.

Feb. 13

Dishon D. Thomas, 35, of Hillside, was issued citations for possession of cannabis by a driver and improper lane usage subsequent to a traffic stop near Butterfield and Cadwell at around 11:35 p.m.

Feb. 12

Alberto M. Rojas, 33, of Melrose Park, was issued citations for unlawful possession of cannabis in a vehicle, expired registration and no seat belt subsequent to a traffic stop near Route 83 and Lorraine at around 10:05 a.m.

Feb. 11

Sam A. Calascibetta, 33, Carol Stream, was charged with possession of a controlled substance, unlawful display of registration and no insurance subsequent to a traffic stop near North and Ferndale at around 10:22 p.m. Police said Calascibetta was found to be in possession of crack cocaine.

Suspicious circumstances

Feb.  17

A complainant near W. Vallette and S. Berkley told police at around 8:01 p.m. that her 7-year-old son advised an unknown teen-age female subject gave him and his friend $15 after they petted her dog. The female then left on foot with her dog. The complainant stated she had no suspect information and just wanted the matter documented.

Feb. 10

A complainant in the 600 block of North told police at around 2:45 p.m. that they retrieved a message from a businesses’ voice mail where a female was heard screaming, “Help me.” The message was found to be related to an incident that occurred at a business with the same name in another jurisdiction.

Theft/burglary/attempted theft or burglary/identity theft/fraud/forgery/deceptive practice/obstruction/robbery

Feb. 15

Deceptive practice was reported in the 900 block of S. Stratford at around 2:28 p.m. A victim told police she contacted an unknown suspect purporting to be working for PayPal. The unknown suspect requested the victim purchase gift cards and to allow him remote access to her phone. The unknown suspect was able to convince the victim to transfer cash to an email address.

Deceptive practice was reported in the 800 block of S. Bryan at around 3:11 p.m. A victim told police that she received an email regarding an unknown purchase on her Amazon account. The victim contacted the phone number provided on the email and spoke with an unknown suspect purporting to be working for Amazon. The unknown suspect convinced the victim to purchase gift cards and provide him with the card numbers. The victim later realized this was a scam.

Residential burglary was reported in the 300 block of N. Addison at around 7:36 p.m. Police said officers responded to a residential burglary alarm and discovered the front door of the residence had been forcefully opened. Officers entered the residence and found it had been burglarized. A canine search of the area yielded no results. The reporting officer notified the homeowner. This case is pending investigation.

Nov. 1, 2020-Feb. 14

Burglary was reported in the 200 block of W. Lake. A victim told police that an unknown suspect(s) entered her unlocked storage unit and removed three televisions and important documents belonging to her and her two sons sometime between the above dates. 

Unemployment benefits identity theft

According to information provided last week by the Elmhurst Police Department, police reported nine incidents of identity theft with the intention of using a victim’s personal information to fraudulently apply for unemployment benefits through the Illinois Department of Employment Security.

Unlawful use of a weapon

Feb. 12

Police said that subsequent to a traffic stop near Clinton and North at around 4:29 p.m., Angie P. Nicasio Sanchez, 26, a passenger in a vehicle, was found to have a valid warrant from the Schiller Park Police Department.

Violation of an order of protection

Feb. 18

Police said that subsequent to a traffic stop in the 400 block of N. York at around 10:18 p.m., a reporting officer made contact with the occupants and discovered George Azo, 33, of Chicago, had an active warrant out of the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office. Upon further investigation, police said it was also discovered that Azo had an active order of protection against him; with the protected party being the driver of the vehicle on which the traffic stop was conducted. Azo was charged with violation of an order of protection and was also issued a no-trespass warning.
