The Glenbard East girls basketball team opened its season with a 50-39 victory over Glenbard South in Glen Ellyn on Saturday, Feb. 6. The Rams were supposed to begin their season in mid-November, but all Illinois High School Association (IHSA) winter sports were on pause for more than two months because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Rams and Raiders received the green light to play the game after Region 8 (DuPage and Kane counties) moved into Phase 4 mitigations earlier in the week. Senior Lauren Huber (No. 10, center) led the Rams to the victory over Glenbard South with a game-high 24 points. Huber scored 18 points during the first half. Senior Emily Ryan added 15 points for Glenbard East. Ryan scored eight points during the fourth quarter. Players, coaches and officials wore masks throughout the game, which was played in front of a limited number of spectators. The Rams’ abbreviated season will run until mid-March. The team is hoping to play 16 games. Glenbard East’s 2019-20 season featured 32 contests.
