Police Reports

The Elmhurst Police Department recently reported the following arrests and citations. Persons charged with domestic battery are not named in order to protect the privacy of victims. Readers are reminded that an arrest does not constitute a conviction, and that subjects are considered innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law. Juveniles age 17-or-younger are not named.

Assault

Jan. 17-Jan. 18

A reporting officer spoke to a nurse from St. Mary’s Hospital in Chicago who treated a victim of a sexual assault. The victim wished to remain anonymous, but stated the assault occurred in Elmhurst.

Attempted aggravated vehicular hijacking

Jan. 17

Police said that officers responded to the 500 block of N. Emory at around 11:12 a.m. for the report of an attempted vehicular hijacking. The victim stated he was approached by two unknown suspects who produced a handgun and demanded the victim’s vehicle. A struggle ensued and the victim was able to gain control of the gun. Both suspects fled the area in a silver Toyota RAV4. The suspects were described as black males, both in their early 20s, both wearing all black clothing and surgical masks. The weapon was determined to be a replica gun.

Domestic battery, domestic incident, disorderly conduct, damage to property, disturbance

Jan. 14

A victim in the 300 block of Sunnyside told police at around 4:58 p.m. that subsequent to a verbal argument, the suspect threw a plastic fence cap which struck her. The suspect and witness related that the incident was a verbal argument and nothing physical occurred. An investigation is pending.

DUI, DUI-drugs, illegal transportation of alcohol

Jan. 20

Vanessa M. Castillo, 25, of Lombard, was charged with DUI and operating a vehicle in an unsafe condition near Roosevelt and York at around 2:24 a.m.

Jan. 18

Azara Pillatsch, 42, of Elmhurst, was charged with DUI and driving while license revoked in the 100 block of W. North at around 10:59 p.m.

Richard Washington, 36, of Chicago, was charged with transportation of open alcohol, possession of cannabis by the driver, driving while license revoked, improper display of registration and no insurance subsequent to at traffic stop near Lake and N. Route 83 at around 8:12 p.m.

Jan. 17

Fabian Duenas, 29, of Streamwood, was charged with DUI, driving the wrong way on a one-way street, expired registration and no insurance subsequent to a traffic stop near E. First and N. York at around 2:46 a.m.

Carlos Fuentes Rocha, 36, of Aurora, was charged with DUI, improper lane usage and no insurance in the 300 block of E. Butterfield at around 8:41 p.m.

Police said officers responded to an area near W. North and N. Route 83 at around 11:49 a.m. for the report of a possible intoxicated driver. Officers located the suspected vehicle crashed into a light pole. The reporting officer made contact with the suspect, who was found to be driving under the influence and in possession of a controlled substance. The suspect was taken into custody and transported to the station. Charges are pending lab results.

Jan. 16

David Galvez-Romero, 28, of Berwyn, was charged with DUI, leaving the scene of an accident, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and improper lane usage subsequent to a report of a multi-vehicle crash in the 100 block of E. Lake at around 2:23 a.m.

Yazmin Rojas-Rios, 20, of Woodridge, was charged DUI and improper lane usage subsequent to a traffic stop near W. North and N. Shady at around 2:04 a.m.

Possession of cannabis, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a controlled substance

Jan. 21

Kenny L. Glover, 27, of Maywood, was charged with possession of cannabis by the driver, driving while license suspended and tinted windows, while Kenji Glover, 26, of Maywood, was issued a citation for unlawful possession of cannabis by a passenger subsequent to a traffic stop near North and Clinton at around 1:49 a.m. Police said Javante M. Murray, 25, of Bolingbrook, a passenger in the vehicle, was found to have two valid warrants from the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office.

Cory A. Warnicke, 23, of Glendale Heights, was issued citations for possession of cannabis by the driver and for no insurance, while Glenn A. Warnicke, 42, of Villa Park, was issued a citation for possession of cannabis by a passenger subsequent to a traffic stop near Route 83 and St. Charles at around 1:35 a.m.

Jan. 20

Demetrius L. Johnson, 33, of Henderson, N.C., was issued citations for unlawful possession of cannabis in a vehicle and illegal transportation of alcohol subsequent to a traffic stop near Lake and Route 83 at around 2:55 a.m.

Latrell A. Morrow, 19, of Chicago, was issued a citation for unlawful possession of cannabis by the driver in the 700 block of N. Kenilworth at around 11:16 p.m.

Jan. 18

Daniel Andrade, 24, of Bensenville, was charged with two counts of unlawful possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia near N. York and North End at around 7:56 a.m. 

Jan.  17

Jada Marshall, 24, of Vernon Hills, was charged with possession of adult use cannabis by the driver, speeding and driving while license suspended subsequent to a traffic stop near S. Poplar and E. May at around 7:43 p.m.

Jan. 16

Police said that subsequent to a traffic stop near W. North and N. Highland at around 11:34 p.m., Suspect #1 was found to be in possession of cannabis wax. Suspect #1 was cited for improper lighting, more than one passenger on a graduated driver’s license, and possession of cannabis by the driver Suspect #2, a passenger in the vehicle, was cited for possession of cannabis and consumption of alcohol by a minor. Suspect #3 was cited for consumption of alcohol by a minor. All three suspects were released to their parents.

Jan. 15

Julio Gonzalez-Guillen, 24, of Norridge, was charged with possession of open cannabis in a vehicle and one headlight subsequent to a traffic stop near Grand and Crown at around 8:26 p.m.

Jan. 14

Taevion Martin, 18, of Streamwood, was charged with possession of adult use cannabis in a vehicle, no valid driver’s license and no insurance subsequent to a traffic stop near St. Charles and Poplar at around 11:04 a.m.

Suspicious circumstances

Jan. 19

An officer responded to the report of a suspicious circumstance /found property report in the 900 block of Riverside at around 11:51 a.m. The complainant located a Winchester 9mm Luger bullet on the ground in a vacant parking space. The bullet was placed into evidence for destruction.

Jan. 20

Retail theft was reported at a store in the 900 block of S. York at around 3:45 p.m.  Police said an employee reported that two suspects—one described as an Hispanic male and the other described as an Hispanic female—exited the store with a basket full of liquor without paying for the merchandise. The suspects entered one of the suspect’s vehicles and left the area onto Butterfield Road.

Jan. 19

Retail theft was reported at a store in the 100 block of E. Schiller at around 5:22 p.m. A complainant told police that an unknown suspect described as either a white male or Indian male between 30 and 35 years old entered the store, removed two bottles of

tequila and two bottles of scotch and left the store without paying for the merchandise. The suspect was observed getting into a tan minivan and leaving the scene.

Jan. 16

Commercial burglary was reported at a store in the 400 block of N. York at around 1:30 a.m. Police said that subsequent to a commercial burglary alarm, officers found a broken glass door at the above location. A key holder responded to the scene and reviewed camera footage which showed three unknown suspects described as black males forcing entry into the business taking cigarettes, liquor bottles, lottery tickets and cash from the cash registers. This case is pending investigation.

Jan. 15

A vehicle was reported stolen from a store parking lot in the 100 block of E. Schiller at around 10:40 p.m. A complainant told police that an unknown suspect(s) took his white BMW 325i while it was parked in the lot. The complainant left the keys in his jacket which was hanging on an employee coat rack. The complainant later returned to find his keys were missing and his car was gone. This case is pending investigation.

Jan. 14

Theft was reported in the 100 block of S. Prospect at around 3:09 p.m. A complainant told police that an unknown suspect(s) stole his jacket and wallet containing his driver’s license, state identification, and a debit card which was later used in Willowbrook.

Jan. 13

Identity theft was reported in the 200 block of N. Myrtle at around 3:33 p.m. A complainant told police that an unknown suspect(s) used her personal information to open a Nicor Gas account for service at an address in Round Lake Beach. The victim contacted Nicor to report the fraud and cancelled the account.

Jan. 11-Jan. 12

Theft was reported at a business in the 600 block of N. County Line. A complainant told police that an unknown suspect(s) removed an empty 53-foot semitrailer that was docked behind the building sometime between the above dates.

Jan. 2-Jan. 4

Theft of vehicle parts was reported in the 400 block of W. Butterfield. A complainant told police that an unknown suspect(s) cut the catalytic converter from a bus sometime between the above dates.

Sept. 19, 2020

Identity theft was reported in the 800 block of S. Hawthorne. A complainant told police she received a collection notice for a Verizon Wireless account she did not open. The complainant later learned an unknown suspect(s) used her information to purchase two smartphones.

Unemployment benefits identity theft

Between the above dates, the Elmhurst Police Department reported 27 incidents of identity theft with the intention of using a victim’s personal information to fraudulently apply for unemployment benefits through the Illinois Department of Employment Security.
