Steven Messerschmidt, 68

Steven James Messerschmidt, of Fate, Tex., passed away on November 13, 2020, at the age of 68. He was born May 14, 1952 in Hinsdale to Fred and Anna (Fritzel) Messerschmidt. He grew up in Downers Grove and Elmhurst and proudly attended Immaculate Conception High School. He started his life-long career in banking while working for his father at Elmhurst Federal Savings & Loan.

Steve was a family man and friend to everyone he met. He worked hard, always dirtying his hands in some project, such as painting, working in the yard, or meticulously fixing something.

He was a sportsman, and loved playing golf, baseball and basketball. He coached his kids’ and grandkids’ sporting teams and motivated them as if they were playing against his beloved Boston Celtics, Chicago Wolves or Chicago White Sox. But mostly, Steve will be remembered for how proud he felt of his family and closest friends, shouting out their accomplishments in a long and usually exaggerated story telling fashion to anyone who would listen. His enthusiastic and wild hand-gesturing stories will be forever missed.

Steve is preceded in death by his parents and brother Freddie. He is survived by the mother of his children, Marsha Mattes; his four daughters, Laura (Marc) Johnston, Tara (Ryan) Williams, Amy (Cameron) Montgomery, and Lindsey (Craig) Terdich; his son Joe Messerschmidt; nine grandchildren, Peyton, Sam, Maddie, Emma, Max, Chase, Kyle, Ethan and Axl; six siblings, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A celebration of life will be held in spring/summer 2021 with burial at Holy Sepulchre Catholic Cemetery & Mausoleum in Alsip, Ill. More information will be provided in the coming months. A memorial page has been created at forevermiss.com/steven-james-messerschmidt, where  pictures, videos and funny stories of Steve’s life can be shared.
