The Elmhurst Police Department recently reported the following arrests and citations. Persons charged with domestic battery are not named in order to protect the privacy of victims. Readers are reminded that an arrest does not constitute a conviction, and that subjects are considered innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law. Juveniles age 17-or-younger are not named.
Assault, battery
Sept. 18
Police said officers responded to an establishment in the 100 block of N. Addison at around 10:44 p.m. for the report of a battery. The reporting officer met with the complainant who stated he was pushed by another suspect while inside of the above location. The suspect stated he shoved the complainant against a wall after a brief verbal altercation. The complainant did not wish to sign complaints and both parties left the establishment without incident.
Criminal damage, criminal trespass
Sept. 22-Sept. 23
Police said an officer responded to the soccer fields at Eldridge Park for a damage to property report. The victim related that sometime between the above dates, an unknown suspect flipped over one of the rented lighting towers which are used for night soccer games.
Sept. 22
A victim in the 100 block of N. Addison told police at around 9:16 a.m. that an unknown suspect(s) keyed his vehicle while it was parked outside of the above location.
A complainant in the 900 block of N. York told police at around 9:55 p.m. that an unknown suspect keyed the front driver’s side door on his vehicle. The complainant believes his ex-girlfriend may have been responsible for the damage.

A victim in the 100 block of N. Addison advised that an unknown suspect(s) scratched the front driver side windshield of his vehicle while it was parked in the lot at the above location sometime between the above dates.
Sept. 18
John M. Orbeck, 40, of Chiago, was charged with criminal trespass to a vehicle at a store in the 600 block of York at around 1:11 p.m. Police said officers received an alert for a stolen vehicle in the area of York and Industrial. Officers checked the area and located the vehicle in the parking lot of the store.

Sept. 22
Lena Hendricks, 18, of Elmhurst, a passenger in a vehicle, was charged with consumption of alcohol by a minor, false use of an ID and no seat belt, subsequent to a traffic stop near Lake and Grand at around 2:51 a.m.
Sept. 21
Justin Clark, 28, of Aurora, was charged with DUI, transportation of open alcohol and illegal parking on the roadway in the 600 block of W. Lake at around 9:45 p.m.
Elizabeth V. Coats, 45, of Chicago, was charged with DUI, fleeing and eluding, driving while license suspended, failure to yield to an emergency vehicle, improper lane usage and no insurance near St. Charles and Spring at around 3:35 p.m. Police said that subsequent to a call for a vehicle allegedly swerving between lanes, the reporting officer located the vehicle and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. The vehicle allegedly fled from officers at a high rate of speed but was later located in a parking lot.
Thomas W. Yonan, 48, of Fox Lake, was charged with disorderly conduct near N. York and Robert Palmer at around 10:48 a.m. Police said Gerardo Hernandez, a passenger in the vehicle, was found to have a valid warrant out of the DeKalb County Sheriff’s office.
Sept. 20
Police said officers responded to the 300 block of No. Maple at around 10:37 a.m. for the report of a verbal domestic. The reporting officer met with the victim who stated the suspect had threatened to harm him, although the victim said he did not believe the suspect would. Both parties were separated and Family Shelter Services was notified.
Police said officers responded to the 600 block of N. West at around 7:30 p.m. for the report of a domestic disturbance in progress. The reporting officer met with the victim who stated the suspect slapped her across the face. The reporting officer spoke with the suspect who stated he became angry after he discovered the victim and her boyfriend together in
her bedroom. The suspect stated the situation never became physical and denied slapping the victim.

Brayhan Flores, 19, of Melrose Park, was issued a citation for public urination near Fairview and Randolph at around 4:11 p.m.
Sept. 18-Sept. 19
A complainant in the 100 block of Maple told police that an unknown suspect(s) threw eggs at the back window of her vehicle while it was parked behind the residence sometime between the above dates. The victim did not have any information on the suspect(s).
Sept. 17
Police said that subsequent to a verbal argument at around 7:40 a.m., a juvenile suspect broke several glass picture frames, spat on the victim’s face and left the house. A reporting officer contacted the
suspect via cell phone who stated he was upset that he was woken up late. The suspect came into the police station, where he was arrested, charged with domestic battery, and was released on bond to a parent.

Sept. 23
Colby L. Miller, 28, of Broadview, was charged with DUI-drugs, possession of cannabis by the driver, driving while license suspended, tinted windows and improper lighting near North and I-290 subsequent to a traffic stop at around 2:37 a.m.

Rachael Scarborough, 50, of Milwaukee, was charged with DUI and speeding subsequent to a traffic stop near Route 83 and Butterfield at around 12:57 a.m.
Sept. 19
Isaiah A. Torres, 19, of Melrose Park, was charged with consumption of alcohol by a minor, DUI, speeding and failure to signal subsequent to at traffic stop near Melrose and North at around 5:32 a.m.
Fleeing, eluding
Sept. 20
A reporting officer located a vehicle wanted by Bellwood Police Department near E. North and N. Berteau at around 11:38 p.m. and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. The suspected vehicle fled from officers at a high rate of speed and was last seen heading northbound on Villa then westbound on Lorraine in Addison. The vehicle was wanted for its involvement in a personal injury crash. This case is pending investigation.
Harassment, threats
July 1-Sept. 11
Police said a reporting officer met with a complainant who stated that an unknown suspect threatened to release explicit photos of her if she did not adhere to his demands. The complainant stated she would pursue criminal charges if the suspect is located.
Possession of cannabis, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a controlled substance
Sept. 23
Police said officers responded to Elmhurst Hospital at around 2:45 a.m. for the report of a patient who was in possession of a suspicious substance. Hospital security located several small baggies
containing suspected cocaine and heroin. The suspect was admitted to the hospital and charges are pending.
Sept. 21
Kewanis Tynes, 25, of Chicago, was charged with unlawful possession of adult use cannabis in a vehicle, defective windshield, failure to dim headlights and no insurance subsequent to a traffic stop near North and Melrose at around 1:57 a.m.
Sept. 20
Isamar Silva, 23, of Stone Park, was issued citations for possession of adult use cannabis in a vehicle and speeding subsequent to a traffic stop near Butterfield and Poplar at around 2:23 p.m.

Sept. 23
Deceptive practice was reported in the 600 block of Sunnyside at around 11:42 a.m. A victim told police that she received an email from an unknown suspect who impersonated her boss. The email requested that the victim purchase eBay gift cards and email the serial numbers and redemption codes to the suspect. The victim purchased the cards and emailed the information before realizing it was a scam.
Identity theft was reported in the 100 block of Virginia at around 4:02 p.m. A victim told police that an unknown suspect used his credit card information and attempted to make a fraudulent purchase. The transaction was declined and there is no dollar loss.
July 1-Sept. 23
Deceptive practice was reported in the 200 block of Chandler. A complainant told police that she completed an online application, via an unknown website, for a secret shopper position. The unknown suspect sent her a check and instructed her to purchase gift cards. The complainant purchased the gift cards, refused to send the gift cards to the suspect until the check cleared, and subsequently learned the check was fraudulent.
Sept. 22
Retail theft was reported at a store in the 900 block of S. York at around 7:52 p.m. A complainant told police that an unknown suspect described as a white male in his 40s wearing a dark windbreaker and dark shorts left the store without paying for alcohol and fled the area. The reporting officer reviewed video surveillance footage which showed the suspect leave the scene in a black Mitsubishi. This case is pending investigation.
Sept. 21-Sept. 22
Identity theft was reported in the 200 block of E. Butterfield. A complainant told police that an unknown suspect(s) had hacked his email account and sent out phishing emails to his contact list. The unknown suspect(s) was attempting to purchase email addresses on behalf of the company. The Attorney General’s Office and Federal Trade Commission (FTC) have been advised.
Sept. 18-Sept. 22
A victim stated a white utility trailer belonging to his company was stolen from the 900 block of N. Weigel sometime between the above dates.
Sept. 22
Identity theft was reported in the 300 block of W. Adams at around 1:46 p.m. A victim told police that an unknown suspect(s) attempted to purchase a Land Rover® and a Porsche® using his information. The victim stated the loans were not approved by the bank and no money was lost.
Sept. 20
Theft was reported in the 100 block of N. Addison at around 12:19 a.m. Police said officers responded to the above location for the report of a disturbance. The complainant told police a suspect took a bottle of alcohol and left without paying. The suspect ran from the scene but was stopped by patrons; however, the bottle was not in his possession. The reporting officer spoke with the suspect who denied taking the bottle. The suspect was served with a no-trespass notice and released from the scene.
Burglary to a vehicle was reported in the 200 block of N. Willow at around 12:23 a.m. Police said that subsequent to a sighting for a stolen vehicle near the above location, officers located the vehicle in the middle of the street with its lights off. The offending vehicle fled from officers at a high rate of speed and was last seen heading northbound on York. While conducting a canvass of the area where the vehicle was seen, officers discovered a vehicle had been burglarized at the above address. The reporting officer made contact with the owner who stated nothing of value appeared to be missing from inside.
Attempted burglary to a vehicle was reported in the 200 block of N. Indiana at around 9:55 a.m. Police said that subsequent to a burglary to a vehicle investigation, officers discovered an unknown suspect(s) entered the victim’s unlocked vehicle while it was parked in the driveway overnight. The victim stated nothing appeared to be missing from inside.
Sept. 18
Meagan Carter, 23, of Elmhurst, was charged with retail theft at a store in the 600 block of N. York at around 5:30 p.m. Police said a reporting officer with the complainant who stated an employee loaded bottles of liquor into a backpack and exited the store without paying. According to police, Carter was later located and placed under arrest. Police said officers recovered stolen liquor from Carter’s backpack.
Amie Lynn Smith, 40, of Chicago, was charged with retail theft at a store in the 600 block of York at around 2:22 p.m. Police said a reporting officer made contact with loss prevention who stated Smith left the store with unpaid merchandise.
Theft was reported in the 500 block of W. Lake at around 11:04 a.m. A complainant reported that a white electrical box was missing from the back of the business. The complainant reviewed surveillance video which showed a suspect described as a white male loading the box into a red Toyota sedan and driving away from the business.
Sept. 17-Sept. 18
Burglary to a vehicle was reported in the 100 block of W. Diversey. A complainant told police that an unknown suspect(s) used a crowbar to force entry into two vehicles while they were parked in the company’s parking lot sometime between the above dates. The complainant will conduct an inventory to determine if any items were taken. This case is pending investigation.
Sept. 17
Ronnie M. Esposito, 32, of Bensenville, was charged with felony retail theft at a store in the 100 block of S. Route 83 at around 9:23 a.m. Police said Esposito left the store without paying for merchandise and fled the area. According to police, Esposito was apprehended and was transported to the police station.
Theft was reported in the 800 block of S. York at around 1:53 p.m. A complainant told police that an unknown suspect(s) removed a plastic “slow down” sign left in the grassy area outside of a church parking lot.
A vehicle was reported stolen in the 200 block of Linden at around 1:17 p.m. A victim told police that a family member parked their unsecured white Infiniti QX60 on the driveway and left the key fob inside of the vehicle. An unknown suspect stole the vehicle and fled the scene eastbound St. Charles Road. The vehicle was entered into LEADS.
Theft was reported in the 300 block of Oak at around 11:15 a.m. A complainant told police that as he was working in the backyard in the above area, an unknown suspect stole his orange/black Echo leaf blower from the front of the residence. Video surveillance shows a silver sedan, possibly a Nissan, with tinted windows, stops briefly past the trailer. Suspect #1, described as a black male wearing a long black shirt, black pants and white gym shoes, exited the passenger side of the vehicle, picked up the leaf blower and placed it inside the vehicle. The suspect vehicle left the scene northbound on Oak Street. A second suspect described as an unknown white, drove the vehicle.
Identity theft was reported in the 100 block of Hawthorne at around 9:12 a.m. A victim told police that an unknown suspect used the victim’s personal information to file for unemployment benefits.
Sept. 15-Sept. 17
Identity theft was reported in the 500 block of Fair. A victim told police of receiving a letter from IDES stating his unemployment benefits were denied sometime between the above dates. On Sept. 17, he received an IDES debit card in the mail. The victim did not activate the card and will advise IDES of the incident.
Sept. 16
Deceptive practice was reported in the 700 block of Spring at around 3:35 p.m. Police said a reporting officer met with the victim who stated an unknown suspect contacted her, stating her Social Security account would be blocked unless she transferred money into an online account. The victim was aware of the scam and filed a report with the Federal Trade Commission and Social Security Administration.

Identity theft was reported in the 600 block of Van Auken at around 6:30 p.m. A victim told police that an unknown suspect used his personal information to file for unemployment benefits.
Jan. 10-April 21
Identity theft was reported in the 1000 block of Sunset. A victim told police that an unknown suspect used the victim’s personal information to open a fraudulent Sprint account.

Sept. 17
Police said a reporting officer in the 300 block of W. Grantley obtained an arrest warrant for Colleen M. Zumerchik, 47, of Elmhurst, at around 2:49 p.m. and made contact with her attorney. According to police, Zumerchik turned herself in at the Elmhurst Police Department on Sept. 21.
