Suspect resists arrest after police find PCP, brass knuckles, more

On Sept. 15, Carol Ames, 21, of Wood Dale, was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance, unlawful use of a weapon, resisting arrest, illegal transportation of alcohol, possession of cannabis by the driver and speeding subsequent to a traffic stop near Route 83 and North at around 7:33 a.m. Police said an officer detected a strong odor of cannabis coming from inside of Ames’ vehicle. A search of the vehicle yielded phencyclidine (PCP), brass knuckles, cannabis, and open alcohol containers, according to police. Police said Ames resisted the officer as he attempted to handcuff her.

Police find meth in car; suspects give phony IDs

On Sept. 16, police said while an officer was on patrol near North and York at around 2:30 a.m., the officer observed a vehicle which had been reported stolen. A traffic stop was conducted and Pedro Velasquez, 37, of Addison, was found to be driving while license suspended, according to police. Ivan Pulido, 26, of Bensenville, was found to be in possession of a fictitious permanent resident’s card and had an active warrant from the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office, police said. According to police, a search of the vehicle yielded methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. Velasquez and Pulido each provided false identifiers to officers, police said. Velasquez was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance, unlawful use of a weapon, obstructing identification, possession of ammunition without a valid FOID card, driving while license suspended and criminal trespass to a vehicle. Pulido was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance, possession of a fictitious ID card and obstructing identification.

‘Scooter scam’ on elderly victim

On Sept. 16, theft was reported at a local store in the 900 block of S. York at around 11:34 p.m. An elderly victim told police that her wallet was stolen while she was shopping. Suspect #1 asked the victim multiple times to reach for items on the shelves, as the suspect could not reach them from his motorized scooter. The second suspect assisted the victim with reaching for the items. The victim proceeded to the checkout and noticed that her wallet was missing from her purse. The victim was later notified that there was an attempt to use one of her credit cards.
