Found WWI artillery shell brings bomb squad

Suspicious circumstances were report on Aug. 19 when a complainant in the 200 block of N. Larch told police at around 6:22 p.m. that he discovered what appeared to be a mortar in the rafters of his basement. When the officer arrived, he observed what appeared to be a World War I-era 75mm artillery shell lying on top of the basement cement wall. The DuPage Sheriff’s Bomb Squad responded and safely removed the ordnance from the residence.

Young man shot in foot with BB

On Aug. 18, a complainant told police at around 6:42 p.m. that her son observed a black or blue vehicle drive past and one of the occupants shot a metal BB at him causing a penetrating injury to his left foot. The victim was taken to DuPage Urgent Care by his mother, and later refused to speak with officers. Further investigation is pending.

Two reports of unlocked vehicles entered unlawfully

Two incidents of unknown suspects entering unlocked vehicles were reported between Aug. 16 and 17—one in the 700 block of N. Indiana and the second in the 800 block of N. Indiana. In the first incident, nothing appeared to be missing from the vehicle. In the second incident, a victim told police that an unknown suspect(s) entered two unlocked vehicles which were parked in the driveway overnight. Items inside the vehicles were disturbed; however, nothing appeared to be missing. The victim reviewed video surveillance which showed two vehicles driving slowly down the street at around 1:08 a.m. A suspect was recorded approaching several vehicles parked in driveways.
