Alvina Bajars, 95

Alvina Bajars, a life-long resident of Elmhurst, passed away on August 7, 2020, at the age of 95.  She and her husband Eric, who proceeded her in death in 1988, bought their one and only home in Emery Manor, Elmhurst’s first subdivision, in 1954. Alvina was able to remain there for the rest of her life.

Alvina was born in Latvia.  When she met and married her husband Eric, both were emigrants in Germany prior to coming to America and first settling in Chicago.  They moved to Elmhurst to raise their children.  Alvina is survived by daughters Rita (late Ken) Buczyna, Anita (Bobby) Meredith and Vita (Brian) DeBrock, as well as grandchildren Stefanie DeBrock and Matt (Ashley) DeBrock and great-grandson Mason DeBrock.

Alvina retired from the Elmhurst Public Library and returned to work there part-time into her late 80’s.  She attended the Chicago Latvian Zion Lutheran Church.  Per her wishes, she was cremated with no planned visitation or funeral. Arrangements provided by the family.
