Joseph A. Barney, died June 4, 2020, at his home in Elmhurst, at the age of 80. By his side was his beloved wife of 58 years, Grace R. Barney (nee Robinson). He was a devoted father to Ginger (John Klein) Leali, Beth (Vito) Dellegrazie, John (Makesha Flournoy) Barney, and Laura Robinson. Loving grandfather of Lauren, Gina, and Mark Leali; Elise and Evelyn Dellegrazie; Sean, Lucy, and Danny Barney; Helena and Melissa Robinson. Dear brother of James Barney (the late Sue); dear uncle of more than 30 nieces and nephews. Joseph A. Barney, Ph.D., was a faculty member and administrator at Loyola University Chicago for 38 years. His academic roles included tenured faculty, dean of students, associate dean of the undergraduate school of business, and published academic writer. In retirement he enjoyed family vacations, traveling, gardening, and reading. Joseph was the foundation that fortified his family. He was a gentleman who did not waver in his beliefs, values, and commitments. His presence enriched the world. Joseph A. Barney was a parishioner of Immaculate Conception Church and a 46-year resident of Elmhurst. A funeral mass will be scheduled when COVID restrictions on the gathering size will allow for it.
