The Elmhurst Police Department recently reported the following arrests and citations. Persons charged with domestic battery are not named in order to protect the privacy of victims. Readers are reminded that an arrest does not constitute a conviction, and that subjects are considered innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law. Juveniles age 17-or-younger are not named.
Assault, battery
April 26
Darren Jones, 29, of Chicago, was charged with aggravated assault and two counts of aggravated fleeing and eluding subsequent to a drug investigation at around 2:04 p.m.
Domestic battery, domestic incident, disorderly conduct, disturbance
May 5
Police said officers responded to the 400 block of W. Butterfield at around 7:12 p.m. for a disturbance where neighbors were arguing over parking in the alley. Subject #1 stated Subject #2 yelled at him to move his vehicle. Subject #2 stated Subject #1 is “always parking in the alley,” which is not allowed. Both parties were separated and the vehicles were moved.
May 3
A 19-year-old Bellwood man was charged with domestic battery at a restaurant in the 100 block of S. Route 83 at around 4:50 p.m. Police said officers responded to the above location for the report of a fight in progress. Police said the suspect was found to have punched his brother in the face and juvenile suspect was found to have attempted to harm his brother with a knife.
May 1
A 54-year-old Elmhurst man was charged with domestic battery in the 600 block of W. Armitage at around 4:05 p.m. Police said a witness stated that the suspect and victim became involved in a physical altercation. The suspect then left the scene prior to officers’ arrival; however, he was later located and placed under arrest.

May 5
Patrick M. Crowley, 53, of Chicago, was issued a citation for possession of alcohol in public near a Pace bus stop in the 100 block of Schiller at around 5:40 p.m.
May 2
A juvenile was issued citations for consumption of alcohol by a minor and violation of curfew in the 100 block of S. Arlington at around 12:12 a.m. Police said that subsequent to a suspicious noise, a reporting officer observed a male subject laying on the ground at the above location. The reporting officer made contact with the juvenile offender who admitted to consuming alcohol, while being under the age of 21.

May 2
Police said that subsequent to an extra patrol near I-290 and Lake at around 4:27 a.m., a reporting officer observed the offending vehicle traveling eastbound at a high rate of speed. The vehicle fled after the reporting officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop. The vehicle is described as a Black Chevrolet Monte Carlo. The case is pending investigation.
Possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia
May 6
Police said that subsequent to an investigation of a suspicious vehicle in the parking lot of a store in the 100 block of Schiller at around 9:37 p.m., officers observed two occupants of the vehicle enter the store. According to police, the suspects exited the store with two bottles of vodka and several packages of meat without paying for the merchandise. Marcos Brumfield, 50, of Chicago, was charged with driving while license suspended and possession of drug paraphernalia. Mack E. Scales, 39, of Chicago, was charged with retail theft and possession of drug paraphernalia. Charles E. Meeks, 56, of Chicago, was charged with retail theft and possession of drug paraphernalia. Alfred Brooks, 53, of Chicago, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.

Freddie Edwards, 43, of Chicago, was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance, obstructing a police officer and possession of drug paraphernalia near St. Charles and Route 83 at around 12:14 p.m. Police said that subsequent to an investigation of suspicious activity, Edwards was found to be in possession of heroin and drug paraphernalia.

May 7
Robert S. Cairo, 19, of Elmhurst, was charged with prowling in the 400 block of N. York at around 2:10 a.m. Police said an officer responded for the report of a suspicious person pulling on door handles of closed businesses. Cairo admitted to pulling on the doors, according to police.

May 7
Theft of vehicle parts was reported at a car dealership in the 700 block of N. York at around 2:54 a.m. Police said while an officer was conducting a premise check, the officer observed a silver Hyundai Santa Fe and a black Hyundai Tucson were each missing the driver’s side and passenger side rear tires. The vehicles were parked in the rear west corner of the parking lot.
May 6
Three incidents of entering, or burglary, to unlocked vehicles were reported on the above date. In the first incident in the 300 block of Eggleston at around 12 p.m., a victim told police that unknown suspects entered her vehicle that was parked in the driveway overnight, stole a pair of sunglasses and utilized the garage door opener to gain access to vehicles inside the garage. The suspects stole the victim’s purse from the inside of her unlocked auto. In the second incident in the 600 block of Parkside at around 1:21 p.m., an unknown suspect(s) entered a victim’s unlocked vehicle which was parked in her driveway. The suspect(s) stole her makeup bag. In the third incident in the 600 block of Mitchell at around 10:06 p.m., a victim told police that three suspects entered two unlocked vehicles while they were parked in the driveway overnight. The vehicles were rifled through, but nothing was taken from either vehicle.
May 5
Retail theft was reported at a store in the 900 block of S. York at around 9:31 a.m. A reporting officer responded to the above location for the report of a suspect refusing to leave the store. Upon arrival, the complainant related that the suspect was in the produce area opening items and ate $5.59 worth of food. The complainant did not wish to pursue charges, but requested the suspect be served with a no-trespass notice. The suspect was served and released.
April 5-May 5
Identity theft was reported at a company in the 400 block of Fullerton. Police said an officer responded to the lobby of the police station for a fraud report, which was reclassified as an identity theft. The business owner related that six fraudulent checks were created using his company’s routing and account number sometime between the above dates. The suspects were unsuccessful in the attempts to cash the fraudulent checks.
May 2
Norman Jones, 34, of Calumet City, was charged with felony retail theft, felony burglary, felony theft, two counts of felony possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia in the 900 block of S. York at around 8:28 p.m. Police said that subsequent to a report of a stolen bicycle, officers located Jones and found he was in possession of a controlled substance, drug paraphernalia, and stolen
merchandise.
Identity theft was reported at a bank in the 100 block of Robert Palmer Drive at around 12:27 p.m. A victim reported receiving a notification from her bank for a suspicious online purchase. The victim did not make this transaction and was advised to make a police report. Matter of record.
April 28-May 2
Fraud was reported in the 600 block of S. Spring. A victim told police that he lost his wallet on April 28. On April 30, an employee of Republic Disposal found and returned the wallet to the owner. The wallet’s contents appeared undisturbed. On May 2, the victim received a notice from Chase Visa that two unauthorized on-line charges were made to his credit card. The victim canceled his credit cards.
May 1
Burglary to a vehicle was reported at a medical supply company in the 500 block of W. Lake at around 9:55 a.m. A complainant told police that while at a gas station, he started the gas pump and went into the store, leaving his company issued iPad inside of the unlocked vehicle. He returned to the vehicle, left the lot and could not locate the device. The iPad was entered into LEADS.
April 19-April 30
Identity theft was reported in the 200 block of N. Addison. A victim told police that someone opened a checking and savings account using her name sometime between the above dates. The victim contacted the credit union and they closed the account and advised her to file a police report.
March 24-March 31
Forgery was reported at a supply company in the 600 block of W. Grand. A reporting officer responded to the police department lobby for a forgery report. The complainant related that while performing a monthly audit, he observed three fraudulent checks that were created and cashed sometime between the above dates. All three of the checks had the correct routing and account number.
Violation of an order of protection
May 1
A victim in the 200 block of W. Lake told police at around 2:28 p.m. that her husband violated an active order of protection by removing her property from a self-storage locker. The reporting officer learned the order of protection had not yet been served on the offender. The officer contacted the suspect via telephone and the suspect agreed to come into the police station to receive service of the order of protection.
