The Elmhurst Police Department recently reported the following arrests and citations. Persons charged with domestic battery are not named in order to protect the privacy of victims. Readers are reminded that an arrest does not constitute a conviction, and that subjects are considered innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law. Juveniles age 17-or-younger are not named.
Assault, battery
April 5
Edgar Martinez, 42, of Elmhurst, was charged with battery in the 300 block of N. Ridgeland at around 10:54 a.m. According to police, a victim related that his girlfriend’s ex-boyfriend approached him and allegedly struck him in the face several times with a closed fist. The victim declined medical assistance and was observed to have injuries. Martinez was located and placed under arrest, police said.

April 7
Kristina Finlen, 37, of Naperville, was charged with trespassing in the 100 block of N. Addison at around 1:28 a.m. Police said a reporting officer met with the complainant who stated he allowed Finlen to spend the night at his residence, but then asked her to leave after she allegedly became verbally abusive towards him. Finlen refused to leave the residence and was placed under arrest, according to police.
Martin Gonzalez, 21, of Addison; Juan F. Mora, 20, of Addison; and Steven M. Zuaznabar, 20, of Addison, were charged with criminal defacement of property near Route 83 and St. Charles at around 5:42 p.m. Police said that subsequent to an extra patrol, a reporting officer observed the three suspects spray painting the interior wall of the bridge on the Salt Creek bike path which crosses under St Charles Road. All three suspects admitted to spray-painting the walls of the bridge, according to police.
April 3
Police said an officer responded to a gas station in the 200 block of E. Butterfield at around 5:05 p.m. for the report of a customer dispute. A complainant told police he was involved in a verbal argument with a suspect after the suspect exited his vehicle while it was inside of the car wash. The suspect reportedly got in the complainant’s face, started coughing, and stated no one could make him adhere to social distancing. An officer spoke to the suspect and served him with a no-trespass notice.

April 7
A reporting officer met with a complainant in the 700 block of N. Lombard at around 5:55 p.m. who stated he and his wife got into a verbal argument, which escalated to the suspect pushing the complainant. The reporting officer spoke with the suspect who stated the complainant had pushed her on to the bed. Due to conflicting statements and no injuries, no arrests were made and both parties were separated for the night.
April 3
Police said officers responded for a delayed domestic report at a hotel in the 500 block of W. Grand at around 9:25 p.m. where the suspect left the scene. The complainant related that after a verbal argument, the suspect reportedly threatened to kill her. The complainant deactivated the suspect’s room key and will contact the police if the suspect returns. Attempts to locate the suspect were met with no results.

April 8
Joseph Reyes, 38, of Schaumburg, was charged with DUI-drugs, unlawful possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of cannabis by a driver, transportation of open alcohol, criminal damage to government supported property, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and improper lane usage near Schiller and York at around 1:07 p.m.
Fleeing, eluding
A complainant near Lake and York told police at around 4:03 p.m. that an employee in a neighboring town refused to return a company vehicle and was driving near the above location. A reporting officer located the suspect who then fled the scene at a high rate of speed. This case is pending investigation.
Harassment, threats
April 5
A complainant in the 800 block of Kearsage told police at around 9:18 p.m. that he has been receiving suspicious phone calls from an unknown caller who was using multiple unknown phone numbers. The suspect left voicemail messages which contained threatening statements. The complainant did not wish to pursue complaints and was advised of ways to remove his personal information from various websites.
April 2
A complainant in the 500 block of N. Walnut advised at 4:30 p.m. that a suspect had been sending threatening messages via text. A reporting officer made contact with the suspect and advised him to stop contacting the complainant.
Suspicious circumstances
April 4
A victim in the 500 block of S. Spring told police at around 3:42 p.m. that he accidently left a flash drive in clothes he dropped off at the above location. The flash drive was later located by an employee and returned to the owner; however, the victim noted approximately 100 files had been accessed.

April 8
Theft of a vehicle was reported in the 600 block of S. Fairview at around 12:54 p.m. A victim told police that an unknown suspect stole his vehicle while it was parked in the driveway. The vehicle was unlocked with the key fob inside of the center console. The case is pending investigation.
April 7
Charles E. Beachem, 28, of Chicago, was charged with retail theft, burglary and unlawful possession of a controlled substance at a local store at around 10:41 a.m. Police said a reporting officer met with an employee who stated Beachem and an unnamed suspect were seen leaving the store with large amounts of unpaid merchandise. According to police, the suspects abandoned the merchandise and fled after they were confronted by store employees outside. Officers later located the unnamed suspect and placed her into custody. She was transported to Elmhurst Hospital by medics for an evaluation with charges pending.
April 6
Forgery was reported in the 100 block of S. Kenmore at around 11:33 a.m. A victim told police she hired the suspect to do masonry work at her house and the victim paid the suspect with two personal checks. Upon reviewing her bank account, the victim noticed an unauthorized withdrawal from her personal checking account. The victim checked with her bank and learned offender cashed a counterfeit check using the victim’s account information. An investigation is pending.
April 5
A complainant in the 400 block of W. Grantley told police at around 12:15 a.m. that after an earlier altercation between her boyfriend and the suspect, she left her residence. Upon her return, she found her reading glasses were broken and personal items were missing from her bedroom. The suspect denied breaking the glasses or taking anything out of the complainant’s room. The complainant did not wish to pursue charges, but wanted the incident documented.
April 3
Darren C. Haywood, 18, of Chicago, was charged with financial identity theft and unlawful possession of a fraudulent identification card. Police said officers responded to the above location for the report of a fraud in progress, and Haywood was on scene. According to police, a complainant related that Haywood attempted to purchase a vehicle using a fictitious Illinois driver’s license which contained the victim’s information.
April 2
Forgery was reported at a business in the 100 block of W. Grand at around 11:06 a.m. Police said an officer responded to the police department lobby for a theft report, which was reclassified as a forgery. The complainant related after checking his bank statement, he found a discrepancy related to a rent check that he mailed weeks ago. The recipient’s name and the amount of the check had been altered. The suspect cashed the check.
