Dorothy A. Van Zandbergen (nee Benson) passed away peacefully in Elmhurst on February 21, 2020 at the age of 94. Dorothy is survived by her devoted husband of over 70 years, Robert (Bob); their four children, Sue (Jack) Bellizzi, Judy (Jim) Young, Gary (Cheryl) Van Zandbergen, Terri (Joe) Scatchell; ten grandchildren, Chris, Carrie, David, Jeff, Eric, Tracy, Katie, Christina, Michael, and Matthew, as well as seven great grandchildren. She was predeceased by an eighth great grandchild.
Dorothy was born on August 9, 1925, in Rock Island, where she also met and married Bob. The family relocated to Elmhurst in 1955. Along with caring for her children, she was an active and dedicated member of Visitation Parish and volunteered with Meals on Wheels.
A Funeral Mass will be held at Visitation Church in Elmhurst on Monday, April 6, 2020, at 9:15 a.m. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, Memorials to Visitation School, 851 S. York St., Elmhurst, IL, 60126, would be appreciated.
The family would like to thank the staff at Park Place of Elmhurst for the gentle and loving care they provided for Dorothy over the last two years.
