Hit-and-run results in DUI arrest
On Friday, Feb. 14, James Nelson, 62, of Elmhurst, was charged with DUI, resisting arrest, fleeing and eluding, leaving the scene of an accident, and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident in the 900 block of S. Prospect at around 3:49 p.m. According to the police report, officers responded to a report of a hit-and-run crash. Nelson fled the scene and refused to stop for officers. Nelson fled to his residence where officers attempted to place him into custody as he resisted officers, according to police.
Suspect says he steals “because he can”
On Saturday, Feb. 15, attempted retail theft was reported at a store in the 100 block of E. Schiller at around 5:43 p.m. Police said a suspect described as a white male in his 70s wearing khaki pants and a black sweater placed items into his scooter shopping cart and attempted to pass the registers without paying. The suspect was stopped by staff members. He advised he was stealing the items “because he could.” The suspect left without the items and got into the passenger seat of a silver Acura MDX. This case is pending investigation.
Resident sees burglars flee after burglary attempt
On Friday, Feb. 14, attempted residential burglary was reported in the 900 block of S. Parkside at around 11:20 p.m. A complainant told police he observed four individuals in dark clothing walking in the area. The complainant stated he heard the keypad to his garage door close and observed someone running away. The suspects then entered an unknown dark colored sedan and drove off last seen heading southbound on Parkside. This case is pending investigation.
