The Elmhurst Police Department recently reported the following arrests and citations. Persons charged with domestic battery are not named in order to protect the privacy of victims. Readers are reminded that an arrest does not constitute a conviction, and that subjects are considered innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law. Juveniles age 17-or-younger are not named.
Domestic battery, domestic incident, disorderly conduct, disturbance
Feb. 12
A reporting officer responded to the 100 block of Schiller at around 5:57 p.m. for a report of a domestic dispute. Upon arrival, officers spoke with the victim’s father who stated the victim became irate and broke a chair.
July 1, 2019-Feb. 9
A complainant in the 300 block of Commonwealth told police that while walking his dog on an electronic leash, the suspect yelled at him for not using a leash and threatened him and his dog. The suspect related that the complainant’s dog is not friendly, has been approached by the unleashed dog in the past and is concerned the dog will attack.
Feb. 6
A 24-year-old Elmhurst man was charged with two counts of domestic battery in the 600 block of W. Crockett at around 2:07 p.m. Police said officers responded to the report of a domestic between a father and son. It was learned that suspect allegedly had been drinking alcohol, pushed the victim, grabbed his arm and knocked the hat off his head.

Feb. 7
James B. Long III, 36, of Addison, was charged with aggravated DUI, failure to reduce speed to avoid and accident and no insurance subsequent to a traffic crash near Spring and St. Charles at around 12:17 p.m.
Possession of cannabis, possession of drug paraphernalia, unlawful possession of a controlled substance
Feb. 11
Police said a reporting officer near Second and Willow observed Suspect 1 conduct a drug transaction with Suspect 2 at around 3:51 p.m. Suspect 2 was cited for possession of adult use cannabis in a vehicle and possession of an alternative nicotine product, and was released to her mother. The officer made contact with Suspect 1 and his mother, where he admitted to selling cannabis to Suspect 2. Suspect 1 will be referred to the DuPage County Juvenile Probation Department.
Feb. 10
Erika J. Gonzalez, 23, of Chicago, was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance, possession of adult use cannabis and speeding near North and Melrose at around 9:23 p.m. Police said that subsequent to a traffic stop, Gonzalez was found to be in possession of a controlled substance and cannabis which was not in a sealed, odor proof, child proof container.
Feb. 8
Erlyn Carrera, 21, of Melrose Park, was issued citations for unlawful possession of cannabis by a driver and disobeying a traffic control device near First and York at around 8:59 p.m.
Jovanny Carrera, 29, of Bellwood, was issued citations for possession of adult use cannabis, disobeying a traffic control signal and tinted windows subsequent to a traffic stop near Berkley and St. Charles at around 5:23 p.m.
Feb. 6
Marlen Cervantes-Rodri, 29, of Chicago, was issued citations for unlawful use of adult cannabis in a vehicle, no insurance and no seat belt subsequent to a traffic stop near Butterfield and Commonwealth at around 10:10 a.m.
Selling alcohol or tobacco to a minor
Feb. 11
Police said the following individuals were issued citations for sale of alcohol to a minor: Leslie Madrigal, 25, of Elmhurst in the 600 block of W. St. Charles at around 6:29 p.m.; and Kevin P. Wurtz, 61, of Villa Park in the 600 block of W. St. Charles at around 6:48 p.m.
Police said the following individuals were issued citations for sale of tobacco to a minor: Lucy Sanchez, 59, of Hillside in the 100 block of E. Butterfield at around 4:45 p.m.; and Joseph Gilbertson, 30, of Villa Park in the 100 block of N. Addison at around 5:14 p.m.
Suspicious circumstances
Feb. 8
A complainant in the 300 block of Highview told police at around 9:34 p.m. that a suspect sent a Snapchat message to her daughter. The message stated: “who tryna buy edibles from my dude. Hmu.” with a picture of a Rice Krispies treat wrapped up in plastic wrap. This concerned the complainant, as she believes the suspect is possibly selling drugs to children.

Feb. 12
Joseph Michael Coughlin, 32, of Joliet; Jerry A. Dixon, 59, of Chicago; and Kyren D. Olliver, 47, of Maywood, were charged with felony retail theft and burglary at a store in the 600 block of York at around 8:47 a.m. According to police, a complainant stated that the three suspects were seen allegedly taking a high-value amount of items from the pharmacy section. Police said the suspects were seen fleeing the scene towards I-290. They were later located and taken into custody.
Jan. 13-Feb. 12
Theft was reported in the 500 block of W. Gladys. A reporting officer spoke with the victim who reported two rings have gone missing from her home sometime between the above dates. The victim suspects a cleaning company. The case is pending investigation.
Feb. 2-Feb. 11
A victim in the 200 block of Myrtle told police that while he and his wife were out of town, an unknown suspect(s) attempted to gain access to his home sometime between the above dates. The victim found that a key had been broken off inside of the dead bolt lock.
Feb. 10
Identity theft was reported at a business in the 100 block of N. York at around 4:38 p.m. A complainant told police that he owns multiple companies and discovered fraudulent checks were written on three of his business accounts. An investigation is pending.
Feb. 9
Identity theft was reported in the 500 block of W. Grand at around 5:05 p.m. A victim told police that he was unable to link his debit card with his newly acquired Chime Banking account. Chime denied the victim’s request because the victim’s Social Security number was already registered to an existing account with the bank. The victim was provided information on how to protect himself against identity theft.
Theft was reported in the 100 block of N. York at around 5:43 p.m. Police said the victim is an employee at a local restaurant and reports he left his unattended wallet at the server’s station. Upon returning to the station, his wallet containing two ID cards and $400 in cash was missing. The server’s station is a high-traffic area for employees and customers.
A vehicle was reported stolen in the 600 block of N. York at around 12:45 a.m. The victim told police he is a pizza delivery driver. He related that he left his vehicle unattended and running in the parking lot of the business. Upon returning to the parking lot, he found his vehicle missing. The vehicle was entered into LEADs.
Feb. 7
Christina Chavira, 42, of Broadview, was charged with felony retail theft and possession of burglary tools at a store in the 300 block of S Route 83 at around 2:32 p.m. Loss prevention told police that Chavira allegedly concealed approximately $340 worth of jewelry and clothing, and left the store without paying. Police said Chavira used wire snips to remove security tags.
Sammy Gray, 30, of Lombard, was charged with retail theft at a store in the 300 block of S. Route 83 at around 6:20 p.m. Police said Gray attempted to take merchandise and leave without paying.
Feb. 6
Myles D. Thomas, 18, of Chicago, was issued a citation for false use of an ID card at around 11:32 p.m. Police said an officer responded for a citizen assist to check identification of a subject seeking admission to a bar. According to police, Thomas was found to be in possession of a fictitious ID.
Theft was reported at a fitness center in the 600 block of N. York at around 10:07 a.m. A victim told police that during his workout, he left his Adidas bag in an unsecured locker in the men’s locker room. Upon returning to the locker, he found that his bag containing his Illinois ID card, Social Security card, clothing and two cups had been stolen.
