The Elmhurst Community Unit School District 205 Board held its first regular meeting of 2020 on Jan. 14 at the District 205 Center, 162 S. York St. All seven board members attended the meeting.
ILMEA students honored
The board honored several District 205 middle school students who participated in the Illinois Music Education Association (ILMEA) District 1 Music Festival at Joliet Central High School on Nov. 9. The board recognized the students from Bryan Middle School, Churchville Middle School and Sandburg Middle School who were selected to perform in various ensembles at the event. The students were selected to take part in the festival after completing an audition process.
Dolan, Zamora receive Shining Star awards
The board also presented its Shining Star Award to two district employees—Jan Dolan, who provides district-wide technology support, and Ismael Zamora, the math department chair at York High School.
Update on Thrive D205 wellness initiative
The Jan. 14 meeting also included an update about the Thrive D205 School and Community Wellness Partnership. The district launched the Thrive D205 initiative to engage the community in a conversation to help understand and reduce stress levels for the district’s students.
Public survey available online thru Jan. 27
Bev Redmond, the district’s executive director of communications and public relations, told the board during the meeting that the district was about to initiate an online survey of district parents. The survey launched on Jan. 16, and would run through Jan. 27. All comments in the survey are confidential. The survey asks parents, “What are your thoughts on how we can continue to support our students to overcome stress and achieve a balanced state of well-being?”
The district will hold its next regular meeting on Jan. 28.
